Pro-Bitcoin Miami mayor Francis Suarez affirmed that he will end his 2024 presidential campaign. The mayor of the sunglasses-loving city reportedly failed to meet the requirements set by the Republican National Committee to make the first presidential debate in Milwaukee last week.
Despite his withdrawal, the Miami mayor confirmed his commitment to “making this a better nation for every American.” Two months ago, he registered his bid to run for the 2024 presidency and ran alongside fellow Floridians, former president Donald Trump, and Governor Ron DeSantis.
Suarez Re-Affirms Commitment to Hispanic Cause
Despite pulling out, Suarez pledged his commitment to the Hispanic community he hails from. The Miami mayor was born to Cuban immigrants Xavier and Rita Suarez.
“I will continue to amplify the voices of the Hispanic community – the fastest-growing voting group in our country.”
Suarez was the first US mayor to take his paycheck in Bitcoin with the help of payments company Strike. His campaign raised Bitcoin (BTC) donations and sold raffle tickets to see soccer star Lionel Messi play for his new club, Inter Miami.

Last year, Miami was the first city to launch CityCoins, an initiative to promote crypto education and lower taxes.
Popularity of Another Floridian Pro-Bitcoin Candidate Haunted by Trump Legacy
Suarez’s now former Republican presidential opponent, state governor Ron DeSantis, sought a slice of the growing cryptocurrency demographic by promoting the industry. Earlier this year, he signed a bill creating a framework for digital currencies, attracting several firms.
Still, he faces stiff competition from the millions of Trump supporters. The gap between DeSantis and has widened significantly since DeSantis first signaled his intention to run.
Accordingly, the presidential hopeful has enlisted his chief of staff, James Uthmeier, to turn his campaign around. DeSantis currently trails Trump by 44 points in the polls.
Ohio businessman Vivek Ramaswamy is another pro-crypto presidential candidate to watch out for. While having no former political experience, the 37-year-old has proven popular with Americans, with 53% of respondents to a Morning Consult poll, regarding him favorably.
