NetDragon: There’s weird news out of Hong Kong this week. A robot has been appointed CEO of a Chinese gaming company. Said gaming company are planning to dominate the Metaverse. And we all know this whole thing totally has Skynet Vibes.

NetDragon Websoft Holdings Limited (HKSE: 0777) calls itself a global leader in building internet communities. They have their finger in a lot of pies. Flavors include gaming, phones, education and VR/AR tech, among others.

They have just announced that they have hired a new CEO. And, it is a robot. Named Ms Tang Yu, the bot is an AI-powered virtual humanoid robot. Tang Yu has taken her position (its position?) as the Rotating CEO.

Kyle Reese on Standby Please

This could go one of two ways from this point. We could see a naked man in an alley over the coming days, sent back through the space-time continuum to kidnap whoever invented this. Or we go on to a better society for all. The first option is a whole mood that we all know is the correct answer.

NetDragon say that the appointment is “a move to pioneer the use of AI to transform corporate management and leapfrog operational efficiency to a new level.”

Tang Yu’s appointment is very much in line with the company’s aim to use an “AI + management” strategy. They say it pushes the company towards being a “Metaverse organization.”

“Tang Yu will streamline process flow, enhance quality of work tasks, and improve speed of execution.”

Execution of who though? Anyway, someone get Kyle on speed dial.

The company go on to say that “Tang Yu will also serve as a real-time data hub and analytical tool to support rational decision-making in daily operations, as well as to enable a more effective risk management system. In addition, Tang Yu is expected to play a critical role in the development of talents and ensuring a fair and efficient workplace for all employees.”

Can we define fair, before the executions start?

Anyway, if you need to go on the run, don’t forget your computer. You can do some freelance work to finance the fight against cyborgs.

I love thinking about world domination.

NetDragon and AI

Dr. Dejian Liu is the current Chairman of NetDragon. “We believe AI is the future of corporate management, and our appointment of Ms. Tang Yu represents our commitment to truly embrace the use of AI to transform the way we operate our business, and ultimately drive our future strategic growth. Looking forward, we will continue to expand on our algorithms behind Tang Yu to build an open, interactive and highly transparent management model as we gradually transform to a metaverse-based working community, which will enable us to attract a much broader base of talents worldwide and put us in a position to achieve bigger goals.”

NetDragon runs multiple internet and mobile platforms with hundreds of millions of users. They developed the first online gaming portal in China, called 17173.com. They also own China’s most influential smartphone app store – 91 Wireless.

NetDragon has also blown up its online education business. The plan is to blend online learning via NetDragon, with every school in the world. Sounds like harmless world domination to me. What could possibly go wrong?
