According to John McAfee’s Twitter account, “developing events” have forced him to go dark. The account is currently being operated by his staff.
Although the details are still unconfirmed, McAfee seems to either be in the custody of United States Federal Agents or on the run near the Bahamas. According to Mike Dudas, he was last seen leaving a “prominent crypto persons home” via boat. Other sources claim that he is in federal custody. https://twitter.com/mdudas/status/1129113685220352001

John McAfee vs. The United States Government

McAfee has often accused the government of spying and unfairly targeting him. In a tweet made just a few days ago on May 14, he said that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) — together with the National Security Agency (NSA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) — were harassing him and his employees.

Crypto Notoriety

McAfee achieved some level of notoriety in the cryptocurrency community back in 2017 when he claimed that one BTC would hit $500K within three years (July 2020). If it does not, McAfee said, “I will eat my d*ck on national television.” He was also the subject of criticism for allegedly pumping coins, posting his ‘recommendations’ on Twitter only to have the coins be pumped shortly after his announcements. However, since the bear market, he has been largely quiet on shilling cryptocurrencies and has instead turned inward. Still giving his input on the cryptocurrency space, he has become more of a meme in the past year instead of giving the industry a bad name as he had before. McAfee has been largely harmless in 2018, oftentimes just posting funny and outlandish videos on his Twitter feed. However, now of all that could come to an end. Potentially in federal custody, it is still unclear what the charges are against him. However, one could likely assume they are related to him promoting pump-and-dump scams back in 2017 or other financial fraud. Do you believe McAfee is being targeted for his cryptocurrency activity?
