One of the world’s largest gaming retailers, GameStop, published eight job listings which hint at a major crypto and NFT expansion.

Earlier this week GameStop updated their job listings to include eight new NFT and crypto related roles. The jobs up for grabs mentioned “Web3 gaming” for which it seeks two head product owners. Additionally, two ads reference its NFT platform, for which it seeks three senior software engineers and three directors of product marketing.

Moreover, the posts include crypto-forward language which hint at the company’s bigger expansion into the space.  “Deeply understand what our gaming partners are trying to achieve and how NFTs can be a key business driver,” the ad reads.

The positions which pertain to the NFT platform call for those with, “NFT marketplace experience and knowledge of crypto, Ethereum and Ethereum Layer 2 products.”

Back in April and May of this year, GameStop quietly published its first ads which included NFT and crypto language. All of these developments occurred as the NFT space boomed throughout this year, along with the GameStop stock frenzy

As the jobs listed on GameStops’ website, fans rallied on Reddit. A post which contained the ad garnered over 10k reactions, many of which championed the move.

NFTs and Gaming

Furthermore, this development with GameStop comes as the gaming industry wrestles with crypto and NFT integration. While it may seem a likely pairing, gaming and virtual worlds with virtual currency, major gaming platforms aren’t all onboard.

In mid-October, Steam, Valve Corporation’s game distributor, announced a ban on games which include crypto and NFTs. However, in response, Steam’s competitor Epic Games made the statement that it is “open to games that support cryptocurrency or blockchain-based assets”.

This comes as blockchain based games like Axie Infinity surged in users and in-game NFT trading increased in popularity. Some even use crypto gaming as a means of ‘passive income’.
