Aptos network celebrated the first anniversary of its mainnet launch. But later, it suffered from an outage that lasted over five hours.

Blockchain outages have been becoming a common occurrence lately. Last year, Aptos’ rival, Solana, often made it to the headlines due to frequent outages.

While Solana has recorded nearly 100% uptime this year, other protocols may need more work to keep the blockchain running.

After solving the network outage, the Layer 1 blockchain resumed its birthday celebrations by inviting the community to continue the collaborative drawing on Graffio.

Community Seeks Answers

The community believed that the team should have explained the reason for the downtime once activity was restored. An X (Twitter) user wrote:

“Aptos shut down for a few hours. Apparently the issue has been solved, but it would be nice to have an explanation now.”

Blockchain projects promising higher throughput have frequently suffered from downtime, Solana being the primary example. In September, Coinbase’s Base network suffered from its first outage a month after its launch. And some community members anticipate that Sui will also face downtime in the future.

While Aptos received its share of criticism, some community members also supported the project. An X user wrote:

“Building high performance blockchains is insanely hard — expecting perfection is not only silly, but counterproductive

Best of luck to the Aptos team, shoutout to those trying to push the space forward.”

Due to the downtime, the price of the Aptos token (APT) sharply dipped to $4.79. But as of writing, the price has recovered and is trading 4% up from the lows.
