On Saturday, Dec 29, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will introduce Litecoin as its first official cryptocurrency partner at UFC 232: JONES VS. GUSTAFFSON 2.
This event marks the first time the UFC has included a cryptocurrency as an official partner. While other sports-based organizations, teams, and players have shown support for cryptocurrency, the UFC is now the largest and most well-known sporting organization to do so.
By sponsoring the event, Litecoin (LTC) may be gaining visibility by having its logo placed on the official UFC canvas. This may also raise awareness of cryptocurrency in general, which is highly beneficial for the social integration of cryptocurrency into general society.
As discussed previously, social integration will occur when cryptocurrencies become a part of daily social life. To enable this, awareness must first be raised, and an event like UFC 232 offers the possibility for large-scale awareness-raising.
The headline of UFC 232 is a Light Heavyweight Championship which will take place between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. This is the second time the two fighters have faced each other in the Octagon during a championship fight. The first occurred at UFC 165, which took place on Sep 21, 2013. Jones won by unanimous decision. Over 15,000 people attended the event in person. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, have since seen the fight, which is often cited as a UFC classic. Given that this is the second fight, many more will show up to attend or watch on television or online to see if Jones can beat Gustafsson a second time. This is beneficial for raising awareness of Litecoin and cryptocurrency. The visibility of LTC and crypto may increase for a second reason: the possible use of steroids by Jones and the forced change of arena that permitted him to fight in UFC 232. The fight was to be hosted at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, but on Dec 23, it was moved to the Forum in Inglewood, California after a trace amount of Turinabol, an anabolic-androgenic steroid, was found in Jones’s system. What do you think about UFC selecting Litecoin as its first Official Cryptocurrency? Do you think Jones’ possible steroid usage might increase awareness to LTC and crypto that will aid in the social integration of cryptocurrency?
