The core development team behind Sia, a decentralized storage platform secured by blockchain technology, announced yesterday that it will hardfork in order to âbrick the Bitmain and Innosilicon hardware.â
âCivil Warâ
Siaâs problems with Bitmain and Innosilicon are numerous but primarily stem from the âsecretâ development of ASICs for mining Sia from the two companies â which nearly caused, according to Vorick, a âcivil war.â As a result, Sia will render both companiesâ ASICs useless.
Not all ASICs will be affected, however.
SponsoredSecurity Risk
As a ânecessary consequenceâ of sorts, Siaâs security will admittedly (and now notably) âdecrease substantiallyâ â a risk apparently worth the long-term rewards.
Siacoin (SC) Price
Siacoin (SC) itself hasnât reacted too dramatically to the announcement.
The 40th-ranked cryptocurrency by market capitalization is, at the time of the writing, trading at $0.006550 per coin â up 6.36 percent over the last 24 hours.
