China’s tech firm Huawei will finally receive access to the UK’s 5G network, according to the country’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. The decision is very beneficial for the firm, especially in light of the US/China trade war.
According to the recent statement by the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, China-based tech firm, Huawei, would soon be granted access to the UK’s future 5G network. The decision is apparently not yet official. However, sources from the senior government and security services in the UK have revealed that the country is moving towards this decision. Huawei It was also revealed that Huawei might be allowed access to the ‘non-contentious’ parts of the network. However, the pending possibility of getting access represents a major new opportunity for the Chinese company. The company was previously banned by the United States, as part of the US/China trade war. The US came with this decision in fear that Huawei might be too close to the rival country’s intelligence agencies. As such, it could be used to spy on US citizens, which is why the country introduced a total ban on Huawei products. Now, with the UK granting it access to its future network, many are wondering how the US might react, and whether or not this decision will open a rift between the UK and the United States. Huawei The two countries have maintained a close relationship in terms of data sharing for years, as they are both the founding members of the 5 Eyes surveillance alliance. However, it would appear that their views on the matter of China, and especially Huawei Technologies, differ greatly. What do you think about the UK’s pending decision? Do you expect that Huawei will indeed gain access to the 5G network, despite the ban in the US? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
