The beloved Shiba Inu, known as Kabosu, famed for inspiring the iconic Dogecoin, has passed away. Her owner, Atsuko Sato, announced that the cherished pet died peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning.

Kabosu was more than just a meme; she was a rescue dog who brought joy and humor to millions globally.

Dogecoin Surges Nearly 10%: Tribute to Kabosu?

Kabosu became an internet sensation after Sato uploaded her images online. One particular photo, showing Kabosu with a peculiar, almost mocking expression, went viral.

This image did not just spawn countless internet memes; it also inspired the creation of the crypto Dogecoin (DOGE) in 2013. Initially a light-hearted joke, Dogecoin quickly evolved to become one of the top crypto assets. Moreover, it spurred the creation of a whole genre of dog-themed tokens, including Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Floki (FLOKI).

On May 24, Sato shared a poignant description of Kabosu’s final hours.

“Kabochan passed away in a deep sleep at 7:50 AM on May 24. Last night, as usual, she ate her food and drank plenty of water. Soft light streamed through the window. And on a beautiful morning when birds were singing outside, she passed away gently while being stroked by me,” Sato wrote.

This event has touched the hearts of many, extending far beyond the crypto community.

Following Kabosu’s passing, the crypto market reacted significantly. Within minutes, Dogecoin’s value surged by nearly 10%, climbing from $0.15614 to $0.17089. Termed a “tribute pump,” this surge reflects the community’s deep connection to Kabosu.

Concurrently, DexTools data shows that various Kabosu-themed meme coins have surged in value. Some saw their values increase by over 186%.

The reaction to Kabosu’s demise has been mixed. Some see the rapid market response as a fitting tribute to the meme legend.

However, others ridiculed the idea of trading the death of a beloved pet. Nonetheless, Kabosu’s impact on internet culture and the crypto sector remains profound.

As the crypto community mourns, it also celebrates the innovation and joy sparked by one dog’s unforgettable expression.
