Entourage star Adrian Grenier has become the latest celeb to come out in support of crypto. And no, he is not just talking about non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The 45-year-old American actor believes that crypto can “fix a lot of the systems that are broken currently, and are quite wasteful across all industries.” In addition to being a Hollywood star, Grenier is also a U.N. Environment Goodwill Ambassador.
He recently told Yahoo Finance that there are many criticizing operations like Bitcoin (BTC) mining for its environmental impact. However, “[there’s] a trade-off for all things,” Grenier said.
“But I see crypto as being able to actually fix a lot of the systems that are broken currently and are quite wasteful across all industries,” the actor added. He believes that digital assets aren’t here just to consume energy but “will fix many industries to be more efficient.”
Grenier calls himself a “realist” and thinks that crypto could have a positive impact on a global scale.
The actor recently quit Hollywood and relocated to Texas to start his own communal farm, where he plans to grow his own food and use digital currencies as a way to trade locally.
He has been working to make his land a “wildlife sanctuary” where bees, butterflies, birds, and eventually llamas or alpacas can find food.
He and his partner grow peaches, apples, loquats, figs, avocados, and more.
Grenier also thinks NFTs are “exciting.” He says that digital collectibles empower people to “share values with one another without mental people and gatekeepers.”
Grenier not alone in lending support
The actor is not the first to support cryptocurrencies. Some well-known celebrities have already joined the space — Paris Hilton, the world’s highest-paid female DJ has been in crypto since 2016, and Reese Witherspoon, the actress, and producer, has launched NFTs supporting women.
