Popular electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has a lot riding for its Cybertruck. The vehicle, which was released a little over a month ago, has become perhaps the most divisive product from the Silicon Valley company in its history, with many believing that its disruptive design could be part of Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s plan to boost sales.
Market research firm Pipslay surveyed 21,143 Americans to get their views on the Cybertruck. According to a December 12 account of the survey, the vehicle might not be as impressive as the CEO thinks.Survey: Tesla Cybertruck doesn't impress the majority of Americans https://t.co/zyxNS06myG

Fans Love the Tesla Futuristic Design
So far, 56 percent of the respondents couldn’t give concrete opinions because they hadn’t seen any previews or heard much about it. The pickup was found to be amusing by around 27 percent of respondents, while a staggering 71 percent are not exactly thrilled with Tesla’s latest product. Amongst those who are knowledgeable about it, the Cybertruck was only able to get a positive or ambiguous perception from 56 percent. For a vehicle looking to move hundreds of thousands of units when it begins to ship, this response rate is average at best. Positive responses mostly came from those who loved the futuristic design and aesthetic properties of the vehicle, while some also expressed their belief that the vehicle will disrupt the way pickup trucks are designed. One of those people, as it turns out, is popular tech reviewer Marquees Brownlee. In a vlog about the product, the reviewer explained that while he initially had mixed feelings about the car, he came to appreciate the fact that Tesla was bringing a twist to an industry that has, up to this point, had a single design standard.Haters Bash the Vehicle’s Price
The 44 percent who had negative views on the Cybertruck gave their reasons. For most respondents, the pickup is seen as a “rich person’s toy” that they can’t relate with. Others took a stab at the vehicle’s cost, advising Tesla to reduce the prices so it’s more affordable. Concerns about Cybertruck’s price are not unfounded. The Single Motor (starting price: $39,000), Dua- Motor ($49,900), and Tri-Motor ($69,900). The dealer cost of a Ford F-150- the current industry standard when it comes to trucks- is as low as $28,155. Comparisons between the Cybertruck and the F-150 have been made all over the Internet. It got to fever pitch when Musk tweeted a video of the Cybertruck pulling the Ford flagship vehicle up a hill effortlessly. However, a proper comparison probably won’t be possible until the Cybertrucks arrive in 2021 (at the earliest). If Tesla wants to charge so much, it’s product will need to hold its own against the industry behemoth. The prospects of Tesla usurping industry stalwarts were also tested recently, as automotive research site Autolist surveyed 1,100 people and found that only 20 percent will be willing to make a switch to the Cybertruck over the electric Ford F-150, the Rivian R1T, and an upcoming electric pickup truck from General Motors. Recently, it was revealed that Tesla would be building another gigafactory in Germany.Cybertruck pulls F-150 uphill pic.twitter.com/OfaqUkrDI3
