The Layer 1 protocol Sui has announced zkLogin, which aims to onboard the next billion users to Web3 bringing mass adoption.

Seamless onboarding user experience has been a great challenge that the Web3 firms are trying to tackle. The decentralized ecosystem involves sophisticated steps such as wallet creation, remembering the seed phrase, bridging assets from one chain to another, and many more.

Will Sui zkLogin Give Away Data to Centralized Tech Giants?

Sina Nader, the Head of Strategy at Mysten Labs, the company behind the Sui blockchain, wrote on X (Twitter):

“Have a Google account? Then you also can have a Web3 wallet immediately. No private keys to memorize.”

However, some community members are concerned about giving away their data to the big tech giants through centralized logins. However, Sui zkLogin utilizes zero-knowledge cryptography, ensuring that no third parties can access the data.

In layman’s terms, zero-knowledge technology helps the projects verify that certain information is correct without actually knowing the information. Sui explained:

“zkLogin provides significant convenience for end-users without compromising security. It uses temporary keypairs and zero-knowledge cryptography to connect a Web2 authentication provider’s response to a specific Sui account.”

Sui has also been surrounded by various controversies since its mainnet launch in May. As of writing, the SUI token is trading at $0.4371, up by a mere 0.2% in the past 24 hours.
