Silk Road

Silk Road was the first modern black market found in the dark net. It was mostly known as a platform for selling drugs. It operated with Tor as a hidden service, so users had full anonymity when browsing. It was launched in February 2011, While initially there was only a limited number of sellers, a fixed fee for creating a seller account was added at a later date. In October 2013, the FBI shut down the website and arrested the alleged founder; Ross Ulbricht. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
