Ozzy Osbourne has unveiled his first NFT collection. Called “Cryptobatz,” these NFTs have a unique feature where they can alter NFTs from other collections to form new ones with attributes from both collections.
Musician Ozzy Osbourne has become the latest to announce an NFT collection. The Black Sabbath lead singer, also known as the Prince of Darkness, revealed “Cryptobatz,” a collection of 9,666 unique bats in the form of NFTs. Rolling Stone first reported the development.
Ozzy Osbourne has reportedly created the NFTs himself, and the collection will be available for purchase starting in January 2022. The collection will also allow holders to create a new NFT by allowing them to bite and mutate with other NFTs. These new versions of the bats are called “MutantBatz.”
What is interesting about this is that these MutantBatz can be formed by “biting” other NFT collections. Bored Ape Yacht Club, SupDucks, Cryptotoadz, and one more as of yet unnamed project will support this feature.
Speaking about the foray into NFTs, Osbourne said,
I’ve been trying to get in on the NFT action for a while so when I asked Sharon for a Bored Ape for Christmas after several failed attempts of buying my own, and she said no, I decided to create my own. CryptoBatz is a f- mental project for NFT collectors and fans. The design pays tribute to one of my most iconic onstage moments and is a chance to acquire a rare piece of art history. I love it!
Musicians and artists flocking to NFTs
Osbourne has joined the long list of musicians and artists who have sold NFTs or at least announced a project. That list includes Eminem, Grimes, the Weeknd, Jay-Z, and many more.
It’s clear that the music industry sees potential in NFTs to give fans access to exclusive material and unreleased recordings. NFT platform OneOf, which deals with music and was started by an industry veteran, has been particularly enterprising with the involvement of NFTs in the music industry.
Of course, this kind of activity would not be possible if there wasn’t interest from end-users. That has been evident in 2021, which has seen an exponential rise in NFT-related activity.
