Hip hop icon Eminem will be dropping an NFT on Nifty Gateway on April 25.

In a tweet featuring a lightbulb emoji, Eminem retweeted Nifty Gateway, who wrote, “Surprise… We’re excited to announce that @Eminem is dropping this Sunday — April 25th on #NiftyGateway!” At this point, it’s unclear what form it will take.

Eminem is one of several prominent artists to drop an NFT on Nifty Marketplace this week. Others include rapper A$AP Rocky and rock band The White Stripes.

SNL’s possible influence

The announcement comes just a few weeks after sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL) released a skit explaining NFTs. The music for the comedy clip was a parody of Eminem’s hit single “Without Me.”

In the skit, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is asked by a student what an NFT is. “Now what the hell’s an NFT/ Apparently cryptocurrency/ Everyone’s making so much money/ Can you please explain what’s an NFT?” he inquired.

Eminem acknowledged the video on April 20. He retweeted SNL’s tweet of the video, along with a thinking face emoji.

NFT rappers

Several other rappers have also entered this space, including A$AP Rocky mentioned above. However, Eminem is by far the most prominent rapper to do so. One could argue that crypto enthusiast Snoop Dogg is similarly iconic. However, Snoop’s sales of 35 million records worldwide pales compared to Eminem’s estimated 220 million records.

Apart from his infamous tweets about Dogecoin, Snoop Dogg has already released a collection of NFTs. The NFT collection, titled “A Journey With The Dogg,” dropped on April 2. The collection includes original tracks from Snoop, along with artworks inspired by Snoop’s life.

Other younger rappers have also gotten in on the NFT game. Soulja Boy claims to be the world’s first rapper to sell his tweets as an NFT. After asking his fans on March 7, how to sell his tweets as NFTs, he proceeded to sell that tweet for $1,288. Additionally, Lil Pump launched his NFT collection on Sweet, while Takeshi69 did so on Bondly.finance.
