There has been a flurry of activity from artificial intelligence (AI) industry followers on social media this weekend. It follows rumors regarding a highly-anticipated update to the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT.
Speculation over a GPT-4.5 upgrade started with a ‘leaked’ image showing a new model with new advanced multimodal capabilities and new pricing on December 14.
ChatGPT Artificial Intelligence Upgrade Imminent?
However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman dismissed rumors regarding the latest update of the Microsoft-powered AI chatbot.
Nevertheless, more ‘leaks’ of a new GPT-4.5 model in ChatGPT have come out over the weekend, according to artificial intelligence industry observer Rowan Cheung. He said,
“The increased performance in the past 48 hours has made the speculation go rampant on X over the weekend.”
Users have been questioning the AI chatbot itself over which model and API it is running. OpenAI employee Will Depue called it a “weird and oddly consistent hallucination.”
When asked what model it was running, ChatGPT responded with ‘GPT 4.5-turbo.’
Furthermore, there have been several reports claiming ChatGPT had a significant upgrade and has performed better than ever in the past 48 hours.
Moreover, the ChatGPT X account was tweeting in cryptic emojis over the weekend, added Cheung.
He added that with Altman denying rumors, we probably won’t be getting a new version of ChatGPT this week.
“At the very least, ChatGPT’s increased performance in the past 48 hrs indicates SOME sort of upgrade in the works.”

However, the firm received a lot of flak after it was discovered that the Gemini demo video was faked.
