ai16z, a venture capital firm run by AI agents, is now rebranding to ElizaOS as it continues to expand its technology and community.

Founder Shaw Walters shared this update with the community, outlining the evolution of their project and its future.

ai16z Transitions to ElizaOS Following Request from a16z

Walters said the original name was a playful reference to their goal of raising $75,000 to create an autonomous investor. The project quickly grew beyond its initial expectations, gaining significant attention and support.

With an expanding user base and broad adoption, the company recognized the need for a distinct and unified brand identity.

Walters said the decision to rebrand as ElizaOS is a strategic move to position the project for future success. He further explained that the new name opens up opportunities for collaboration with established players in the Web3 spaces.

“Rebranding as ElizaOS opens exciting doors to collaboration with established players eager to leverage our groundbreaking tech,” Walters said on X.

However, it appears venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, also known as a16z, requested that the project change its name due to the similarity. Chris Dixon, managing partner at a16z Crypto, revealed this request in the latest episode of the Unchained podcast. He explained that the name could cause confusion with the firm’s well-established brand.

“We were not connected with AI16z. I believe they are in the process of changing it. We’ve asked them to. It just was creating a little bit of confusion,”  Dixon said.

Despite the change, Eliza, the project’s mascot, will remain the AI platform’s face. The ai16z ticker remains in place for now, but the community will decide on future changes once the DAO voting module is launched. Importantly, Eliza Labs has committed to not creating any more tokens.

The ai16z token recently experienced a major surge after President Donald Trump announced a $500 billion investment in private AI infrastructure. However, as of writing, it remains around 75% down from its all-time high.

As Eliza Labs prepares for the next phase, they are working on Eliza v2, which promises to be the most feature-rich agent framework ever created. Walters emphasized the company’s commitment to building artificial general intelligence (AGI) and making a meaningful impact on the industry.

“In just three months, we grew our AUM 300x. Now we’re leveling up with a cohesive brand and working on Eliza v2 – the most feature-rich agent framework ever created,” Walters added.
