T-Mobile recently reported that it suffered a data breach, led by a malicious party. The breach affected a number of the service’s prepaid customers’ accounts.
T-Mobile’s new announcement confirms that the service was recently targeted by a malicious party that managed to breach the service’s defenses. The breach resulted in a theft of a certain portion of data from the service’s site. According to the report, it appears that some of T-Mobile’s prepaid customers had their account data stolen during the attack. The service also noted that their cybersecurity team managed to discover and shut down the attack. The service also contacted the authorities, immediately reporting the incident.

T-Mobile Is Notifying Its Customers

The report assures the company’s customers that the stolen information does not include any financial data, and the same is true for social security numbers and passwords. The only information that the attackers managed to access is that of the users’ prepaid wireless accounts, including names, phone numbers, rate plans, additional features, account numbers, and billing addresses. The incident is currently under investigation, while T-Mobile already started notifying its customers of the breach. The service recommends that users update their PIN number for their T-Mobile accounts. Those who use the service but have failed to update their information may not receive notification of the breach. In this case, users should reach out to T-Mobile to receive additional information. Users can reach the service by dialing 1-800-TMOBILE from any phone, or dial 611 if they have a T-Mobile phone. T-Mobile

The Number of Affected Users Is Still Unknown

For now, the service remains unsure as to how many users were affected. However, T-Mobile’s community on Reddit already reported that the company had contacted them, and are also spreading the word. T-Mobile also apologized for the incident, stating that the users’ safety and security is their top priority and that several safeguards are in place to prevent such incidents from happening. So far, the service did not share details on how the attackers managed to breach their defenses. However, more information will likely become available as the investigation moves forward.
