Facebook has announced that it will not allow attempts at unmasking the Ukraine whistleblower whose complaint led to the impeachment inquiry against the US President.
Facebook’s yesterday’s announcement took many by surprise, as the platform stated that all content that might unmask the Ukraine whistleblower would be removed. The whistleblower in question filed a complaint that sparked the impeachment inquiry against the current President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Facebook Removing Posts, Ads Containing the Whistleblower’s Name
According to Facebook’s spokesperson, any attempt to reveal the identity of the whistleblower would be considered a violation of the platform’s policies. As such, Facebook will remove all such content, which it considers ‘outing of witness, informant, or activist.’This, of course, includes any mentions of the whistleblower’s name, and likely other personal details. Facebook’s new decision came after the company’s ability to enforce policies recently got questioned by a number of critics. The company’s decision will also reportedly include all posts that get published on the website, as well as ads. In fact, the ads were one of the main methods that Trump’s allies were using to try and unmask the whistleblower. They were viewed several hundred thousand times before Facebook decided to take them off and introduce a ban on any further attempts. The platform did include in its statement that the decision will be revisited after if the whistleblower’s name becomes published in the media, or if a public figure reveals it in a debate at some point. Until something like that happens, however, the ban will remain. This is BS.

Trump Requested the Unmasking of the Whistleblower
As mentioned, Facebook had seen a number of ads posted by those who would unmask the Ukraine whistleblower, and the company quickly took them off. Meanwhile, the company also decided to include all posts as the name of the supposed whistleblower got shared on the platform, as well as in some conservative articles. The issue attracted even more attention after Trump himself called for the unmasking of the whistleblower. Meanwhile, the House had passed a resolution to move further with the impeachment inquiry. They want the truth about whether Trump collaborated with the Ukraine president in order to investigate the former VP, Joe Biden, as well as his son, Hunter.Images are courtesy of Shutterstock, Twitter, Pixabay.
