MetaMask has released its new 2025 roadmap aimed at optimizing the Web3 experience and accelerating mainstream adoption.
The updates, detailed in a recent blog post, promise to simplify user interactions, bolster transaction reliability, and introduce new features.
MetaMask Launches New Roadmap
MetaMask’s roadmap is built around three main pillars: enhancing user experience, ensuring seamless multichain connectivity, and fortifying wallet security and functionality.
“The future of web3 depends on self-custody: for it to become the default choice for users, we need to make wallets more intuitive, connected, powerful, and safe,” the blog read.
One of the standout features is the transition from externally owned accounts (EOAs) to programmable accounts. A key component of this shift is EIP-7702. This is a part of the upcoming Pectra hard fork, which will empower EOAs to function like smart accounts.
The wallet will also introduce ERC-5792 batched transactions. It enables one-click “Approve & Swap” actions that cut gas costs and streamline processes.
Moreover, MetaMask will extend gas-included swaps to all transactions starting in March. This will give users an option to pay gas with any token they hold when interacting with decentralized apps (dapps) or sending tokens.
“Longer term, we believe we can eliminate gas as a user-facing concern in nearly all interactions. (We’ll get to that!),” the roadmap included.
MetaMask Adds Multichain Support
MetaMask has also shared ambitious multichain expansions. Solana (SOL) integration will arrive in May. Succeeding this, Bitcoin (BTC) support will arrive in Q3 2025. This will let users engage with these ecosystems without separate wallets or wrapped tokens.
A Multichain API is set to launch in June. This will enable dapps to connect to Ethereum (ETH), Linea, Solana, and Bitcoin simultaneously, simplifying tasks like portfolio management and bridging.
In line with its multichain focus, the user interface is also getting a multichain makeover. A redesigned home screen, debuting next month, will display assets across networks.
Meanwhile, Profile Sync will arrive in April for browser extensions and May for mobile. This feature will keep settings consistent across devices.
Support for multiple Secret Recovery Phrases (SRPs) will also be introduced. This will equip users to manage multiple wallets from a single MetaMask instance.
Additionally, the MetaMask Card will allow users to spend their crypto directly without going through traditional offramps.
“To realize all of the potential described above, we have built the MetaMask Delegation Framework. We think it might be the most dynamic and powerful permission system you’ve ever used,” the roadmap detailed.
The framework is designed to facilitate flexible and secure account permissions. It permits users to grant ERC-7710 permissions off-chain.
This system also aims to enhance security by giving users the ability to delegate specific tasks while maintaining overall control, making it easier to balance usability with high-level security.
Meanwhile, the roadmap arrives on the heels of a major regulatory victory as the SEC dropped its lawsuit against MetaMask.
“Now we can get 100% back to building. 2025 is going to be the best year yet for Ethereum and ConsenSys,” CEO Joe Lubin said on X.
