Some recent Windows 10 updates have been linked to screen discoloration and spiking CPU usage which has caused Microsoft to finally make some updates optional.
For anyone who is on a Windows 10 device, you’re probably thinking this is long overdue, as you’re likely familiar with the ceaseless updates which Microsoft forces you to download. It’s undoubtedly frustrating, but it seems that the tech giant is finally listening to its overwhelming critics.

Updates for Windows 10 No Longer Mandatory

It seems that the past month has confirmed what those familiar with using Windows knew all along: many updates are flat-out unnecessary and some cause problems which previously didn’t even exist.  For example, last month, Windows 10 users reported screen discoloration and rising CPU usage due to updates forced on them by Microsoft. Previously, you were forced to install all the updates or else your computer would bombard you with reminders incessantly. Now, Microsoft is splitting up its updates into two categories: those that are optional and those that are necessary. Bear in mind, this is the way updates used to be. If you have used Windows 7, you may remember that Microsoft used to sort updates by these two categories before. It essentially took the company a full 4 years to bring back this simple standard, only after it was proven that some of its updates might cause issues for users. Windows 10

Long Overdue

Currently, some 800M users are on Windows 10 so this minor change will affect an extremely large number of people. If you’re on this operating system, you likely think this should have been done a long time ago. Yet, it’s nowhere close to the control Windows 7 gave users. Drivers, for example, were frequently classified as ‘optional’ on the system. In Windows 10, however, these will still update automatically. Given that driver updates are often the source of issues, it seems that Microsoft has ignored the main reason for the complaints to begin with. windows 10 update So, when can Windows 10 users expect this update? According to recent reports, not until Spring 2020. It seems like those of us on this operating system have to continue struggling with always-mandatory updates until then. Why does Microsoft seem to have a disproportionate amount of updates and why did they take so long to institute this minor change? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
