Topps is celebrating baseball’s newest rising stars with an MLB non-fungible token (NFT) collection on the ToppsNFT platform.

Legendary trading card company Topps has announced its latest NFT collection to debut on the ToppsNFT platform. The 2021 Topps MLB Inception NFT Collection is being released on its NFT marketplace that is powered by the Avalanche blockchain. The digital trading cards are based on and inspired by the physical product that bears the same name. The NFTs differ in a number of ways, however, including motion animations, facsimile signature editions, and digital relics that highlight MLB rookies, stars, and veterans alike.

ToppsNFT was designed in a way to remove the confusion surrounding NFT purchases for those new to the digital collectible world. ToppsNFT does not require users to have a cryptocurrency wallet or to buy special tokens. Each sale can be done by credit or debit card in one place on the Avalanche blockchain. Avalanche was chosen for its fast and low-cost transactions along with being eco-friendly.

Commenting on the release, MLB Players, Inc. Managing Director, Evan Kaplan, said that “This Topps NFT product comes at a time when so many talented young players are emerging in baseball and provides collectors with a new way to connect with them as their careers take shape.” Kaplan added that this is a great opportunity for fans to grab and own a piece of MLB history.

Topps MLB Inception NFT Collection

The first set of Topps MLB NFTs feature digital images from the 2021 Topps Series 1 physical set that launched in April. As is the case with many NFT collections, there are varying rarities of cards and packs that can be purchased.

Users can choose from either a standard pack of six cards or a premium pack of 45 cards. All cards are pre-minted. A standard pack will cost $10 each while the premium packs will sell for $100 each. Both packs are limited — only 50,000 standard packs and 24,090 premium packs will be available.

Cards can be from one of six rarities in standard packs, from common to epic. Standard packs have a 78.11% chance of containing commons and just 0.22% to have an epic. Meanwhile, the premium packs add two rarity levels, Epic Exclusive and Legendary Exclusive. Collectors have a 4.44% chance to pull an Epic Exclusive but just a 0.04% chance to snag a legendary release.

Both standard and premium packs will be available starting on Thursday, Sept 9 at 1 pm ET.
