How Top-Heavy Is the Index Now?

Nvidia (NVDA) leads at 7.5%, followed by Apple (AAPL) at 7.1%, Alphabet (GOOGL) at 5.9%, and Microsoft (MSFT) at 5.6%.

Together, they hold 26.1%, while the 11 stocks ranked behind them add up to about 20.6%.

Meanwhile, the 434 smallest members together roughly match the five largest in value, a record gap.

The S&P 500 weights companies by market value, so rising prices lift the largest firms’ share automatically.

Do the Top 15 Stocks Signal a 2000-Style Bubble?

Investor Michael Burry’s market warning points to 2000 and 2008, when early resilience gave way to deeper losses. He calls the current mood denial and expects it to last six to nine months.

In contrast, Tom Lee, co-founder of research firm Fundstrat Global Advisors, sees AI in 1997 rather than 1999. His model puts a bubble peak near 2033, still years away.

Therefore, S&P 500 index funds now put nearly half of their money into 15 companies. The benchmark many treat as a proxy for the US economy increasingly tracks a narrow set of mega-cap firms.
