Samsung and KT recently decided to apply 5G networks at Samsung Medical Center. The use of the new generation of systems will likely lead to more advanced medical services, which will be co-developed in future periods.
According to new reports, the South Korean telco known as KT will work with Samsung to install 5G networks at the facilities of Samsung Medical Center. The network will then be used for making new and improved medical services available to those who need them.
According to KT, the network will be installed at the main campus of the Medical Center, which is based in Seoul. The main campus also houses the Center’s cancer hospital, as well as a proton therapy center.
For the moment, the situation between the two institutions is not nearly as efficient as it could become. Doctors need to continually go back and forth between the cancer hospital and the proton therapy center, to get the new data regarding their patients and their conditions. Also, pathology sample data cannot be accessed for reading just anywhere โ there are limited locations where it can be done.
Benefits of Installing 5G in Hospitals
This has been a problem for a long time, which finally has a solution โ 5G networks. With the ability to access them, the Medical Center’s staff will have a safer and faster way of delivering and accessing large quantities of data from pretty much anywhere within the Center. KT also points out that doctors would be capable of conducting real-time checkups on their patients, even while they are attending their proton therapies. The data regarding the therapy would be instantly available to the doctors, and they would see it as it is being collected. With the process and access to data now happening in real-time, doctors will be able to instantly see their patients’ progress and quickly react with potential changes in their treatment. After the firms install the 5G network, they also plan to collaborate on the development of several new services that would be provided for the Center’s staff. For example, they would create a unique solution that would make it possible for doctors and their teams to conduct co-diagnosis, whether they are physically located near the patient, or not. One great possibility would be for the doctors to monitor surgeries via the video, over the 5G network, and provide suggestions and advice for the staff to follow. Meanwhile, the staff would be able to access patients’ data at any time instantly. These and other possibilities are slowly becoming a reality, and it will only be a matter of time before they spread around the world. What do you think about such a use of a 5G network? Do you think that it will make the services better, and make a difference? Leave a comment below and let us know.Images are courtesy of Shutterstock.
