Football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi get exposure to NFTs as FIFA World Cup approaches.

The FIFA World Cup 2022 is just around the corner, and Web3 is bringing sports and the virtual world together. The announcement from Cristiano Ronaldo made the anticipation for one of the most significant sporting events reach new highs.

The Cristiano Ronaldo NFTs

Today, the football legend announced a drop of his Non-Fungible Token (NFT) collection on Twitter. The CR7 NFT collection will be released on Nov. 18, Friday on the Binance NFT platform. Binance first announced the partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo in June this year.

My relationship with the fans is very important to me, so the idea of bringing unprecedented experiences and access through this NFT platform is something that I wanted to be a part of. I know the fans are going to enjoy the collection as much as I do.

The drop is planned as a surprise; hence many details aren’t released yet. However, the fans will get a sneak peek of the NFT collection anytime soon. Some fans are excited about the drop, but a Twitter user feels that it is a topping sign, one year into the bear market.

The Manchester United Digital Collection

The controversy between Cristiano Ronaldo and his club Manchester United has been making headlines lately. Ronaldo, in his interview with Piers Morgan, has said that he feels betrayed by the club.

While Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United is being called into question, the club announced its NFT drop days before the CR7 NFT collection. The first digital collection from Manchester United will be gifted to fans through a Tezos-based platform.

Lionel Messi invests in Sorare

The Argentine football legend, Lionel Messi, is not behind his rival Ronaldo in getting exposure to Web3 and NFTs. According to a CNBC report, Lionel Messi is joining the French NFT trading card game Sorare as an investor and brand ambassador.

We believe Messi will help us set new standards in how we do this, and we look forward to sharing what new content and fan experiences we’ve been collaborating on soon,

Nicolas Julia, co-founder of Sorare

However, this is not Messi’s first exposure to Web3. Last year, when he joined Paris Saint Germain, he received PSG tokens, the fan token of the club, as a signing bonus.
