According to recent reports, Verizon has recently enabled 5G to several parts of Los Angeles, including Venice, Chinatown, and Del Rey.
Enabling 5G ultra wideband in the US has been one of the country’s big goals lately, and Verizon seems to be working restlessly on achieving it. The major US carrier has just crossed another major city of the list, launching 5G across multiple regions of Los Angeles, CA.

A Handful of Areas

For now, access to 5G is only possible in a handful of areas, including Venice, Del Rey, and Chinatown. Similarly to other major locations where 5G has recently been introduced, users can only reach it in some major locations and landmarks, such as Grant Park, LA Convention Center, Venice Beach Broadwalk, Staples Center, and alike. Los Angeles is currently the 19th city in the US which got 5G, and while there are only two weeks left until the new year, many are expecting additional updates from the company. Verizon’s goal was to deliver 5G to at least 30 major cities throughout the US, which means that there are 11 cities left to go, and 14 days to deliver. 5G

Speed vs. Consistency

Unfortunately for Verizon, some of its biggest competitors have, such as T-Mobile, have been more efficient in delivering their 5G. T-Mobile already managed to go nationwide, delivering its own 5G in early December. This is due to the fact that the two firms took different approaches. Where Verizon is focused on short-range 5G which is extremely fast, while T-Mobile’s version covers a larger area, although it is barely any faster than LTE. T-Mobile’s version is also less likely to experience interference, which is likely to be preferred by many, at least until the networks mature and find a way to bypass similar emerging issues. The final dilemma is whether the user wants extremely fast internet in only certain areas, or if they would rather be able to access consistent internet all the time, but have it only slightly faster than what they already know?
