Sorare announced this morning a new licensing agreement with the French Football Federation (FFF) to release non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The collaboration between the French national football team and Sorare marks the first time that a national team has offered an NFT collection. The national squad’s new digital cards will join more than 140 other licensed teams that Sorare has secured such as Bayern Munich, Juventus, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid.

The move to incorporate national teams into their NFT collection is the next natural move for the digital collectable platform. The platform has a massive international fan base to pull from and reports active monthly users of nearly 100,000 from 140 countries. Considering France is the reigning world champions, they were the perfect choice to become the first national team to collaborate with.

Sorare’s CEO, Nicolas Julia, stated that: “Today is an historic day for Sorare as we release the World Champions to the game through our unique collaboration with the French Football Federation!”

“The team is on fire and much more is coming soon to bring you the best of the world of football”

The official announcement will be followed by France’s debut at the 2020 European Championships in their match against Germany Tuesday. The new cards will be available for use at Sorare’s 2020 European Championship competition ending July 11.

The French collection

The licensing deal will allow for the creation of NFT digital cards of the French men’s team for the Euro tournament. The cards will have the same utility as the club versions of each player’s card. Each NFT is also part of the current supply of each player’s 2020 season release of 111 cards.

Starting on Game Week 174, top players from ongoing Global Nations tournaments will be awarded National Team cards and will grow as teams are eliminated from play. Of those winners, the top three finishers of each tournament will automatically win a random FFF Super Rare card.

Podium finishers in the Global All-Star division will also have a chance to win one of the new cards. Some of the more sought-after names on the roster are Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba, and Hugo Lloris.
