Dogecoin’s official account poked fun at Hollywood, comparing Spider-Man’s record opening weekend to its own market value.

The meme coin joked that the film needs about 11 more openings that size to catch up with Dogecoin (DOGE). The coin is a meme-based cryptocurrency that trades independently of the movie industry it referenced.

Spider-Man Sets a New Box Office Record

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” opened to $927 million worldwide over the weekend. That mark ranks as the second-biggest global debut ever.

Domestically, the film earned $360 million. That broke the North American opening record that “Avengers: Endgame” set previously. The Dogecoin account seized on the milestone right away. It compared the film’s total to Dogecoin’s market capitalization.

The comparison also revealed how large Dogecoin’s valuation remains despite a long price slump. In contrast, large-cap tokens like Bitcoin (BTC) have drawn steadier institutional demand this year. Dogecoin, meanwhile, has spent much of 2026 grinding through a 19-month price downtrend, and the token’s dominance within the meme coin sector has slipped, too.

Dogecoin’s Market Cap Still Leads the Race

DOGE trades near $0.0698, down about 0.63% over the past 24 hours.

That price puts Dogecoin’s market cap at roughly $10.84 billion. The ranking places the coin 11th among all cryptocurrencies by market value, and the total still dwarfs the movie’s opening weekend gross by a wide margin. That gap explains why the joke needed eleven repeat showings to close.

Dogecoin set that all-time high at $0.73158 on May 8, 2021, during its first major rally. Today’s price, therefore, sits roughly 90 percent below that peak, though the token still holds a top-15 market cap despite the drop.

Meanwhile, the broader meme coin dominance has slipped to a two-year low. Rivals like Shiba Inu (SHIB) are still waiting on a broader meme season revival of their own.

Traders have also faced meme coin selling pressure on Binance this year, as capital keeps rotating toward tokens with clearer fundamentals. Grayscale has argued that the market increasingly rewards utility over hype. That shift could make Dogecoin’s next rally harder to engineer than its last one.

Spider-Man may hold the box office record for now. Dogecoin’s market cap, however, still sets the bar the film would need eleven more weekends to reach.
