Chuck E. Cheese, the pizza and arcade chain, has come out swinging against those who dare claim Bitcoin is more valuable than Chuck E. Cheese tokens. The bizarre and-and-forth happened on Twitter.
It all started with a tweet by Ryan Hoover, who said that he would rather earn BTC than Chuck E Cheese tokens. However, the chain’s mascot did not take too kindly to this insult. The mascot of the pizza and arcade chain fired back in a reply tweet telling hunt, “To each his own fake currency…” Most cryptocurrency fans were amused by the response. “Our fake currency is worth $10,000, Mr. Cheese” @zackvoell writes. Other users posted memes, telling Chuck E. Cheese to delete his account at once, while one user questions whether it is possible to buy drugs with Chuck E. Cheese coins. Despite the banter, Chuck E. Cheese tokens may have more in common with cryptocurrencies than you might think. This past December, Bloomberg Law reported that cryptocurrency tokens that pass the so-called “Chuck-E-Cheese” test could trade and operate in closed environments similar to tokens in an arcade. The test is a proposed benchmark for whether or not tokens meet the requirements to be considered securities, similar to the Howey test. Then, in December 2017, a fake story was floating around detailing a man that made $1M selling Chuck E. Cheese tokens to people by telling them it was Bitcoin. The story was revealed to be a hoax, but still, the comedic comparison between Bitcoin and Chuck E. Cheese tokens has been around for some time. Also, much like Bitcoin, Chuck E. Cheese tokens are no longer physical coins either. Instead, they are merely numbers in a computer which are recorded on one’s rewards card. So, before you laugh at Mr. Cheese, you may want to look at what cryptocurrencies have in common with the old arcade and pizza chain. What do you think about this absurd story? Do you think Chuck E. Cheese has a point? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
