Purporting to be ‘the real Bitcoin’ by supposedly staying true to Satoshi Nakamoto’s ‘true vision’ for peer-to-peer electronic cash, Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is an altcoin which was hard forked from Bitcoin (BTC) in August 2017. Its claim to fame is that it features a larger block size for increased transactional capacity. This solution to Bitcoin’s scaling issues has been placed in direct competition with BTC’s Segregated Witness (SegWit) solution and has created a civil war of sorts between proponents in both camps. Some in the cryptocurrency space do believe that Bitcoin Cash is the ‘real’ Bitcoin, while others think the project is little more than a cash grab or marketing ploy to hijack the Bitcoin name and create confusion within the cryptocurrency market.
