Binance, a crypto and blockchain infrastructure provider, has donated $6m via a new crypto crowdfunding platform, to help the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Overall, they have donated a total of $10m to Ukrainian causes.
This will be operated through its Binance Charity Foundation. It will be split between intergovernmental organizations and nonprofits already on the ground. These include UNICEF, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, iSans and People in Need. The aim will be to support displaced children and families both in neighboring countries and in Ukraine itself.
Binance has also launched a crypto crowdfunding site. It is called the Ukraine Emergency Relief Fund.
Anyone can donate crypto to help provide emergency relief and to support logistics on the ground. This includes food, fuel, and supplies. Binance themselves have already donated 16,042 BNB ($6 million).
Binance: The plan
Changpeng Zhao, CEO of Binance, said, “Watching this conflict escalate over the past four days has shocked our community to its core. We are proud to have been able to quickly rally our network to provide relief and support on the ground to those in need. This includes helping provide food, fuel, supplies and shelter for Ukrainians, which include countless Binance community members. We are using every resource and governmental channel we have to call on world leaders to end this conflict immediately.”Binance is also collaborating with local aid groups to expedite Ukrainians’ passage across the border into neighboring countries.
Binance has an existing relationship with UNICEF. The most recent donation will help protect Ukraine’s 7.5 million children.
UNHCR is the UN Refugee Agency. It has been in Ukraine providing relief and shelter to people forced to flee since 2014.
iSans is the International Strategic Action Network. They first set up in Poland in 2020. This was to take in Belarussian refugees following the Lukashenko regime’s crackdown.
People in Need support refugees that suffer the consequences of war. PIN’s organization in Ukraine will provide assistance to those who may not be able to leave.
Since 2018, the charity has donated $10 million to charitable causes.
