New rumors claim that Apple plans to create an in-house, 5G cellular modem, and integrate it in its iPhone and potentially iPad, likely by 2022.
Recently, a new rumor started circulating the internet after emerging in a Fast Company’s Thursday report. The rumor claims that Apple might be planning to develop its own 5G modem, and have it ready by 2022. If successful, the modem will be integrated with the new iPhone and iPad. This caused a lot of debate in the tech world, as the timeline appears to be quite bold. After all, cellular 5G modem is rather sophisticated hardware, not to mention that it is heavily regulated. As such, it will require careful development and a lot of testing, which caused many to speculate whether the iPhone maker has enough time to come up with this technology and design it properly. apple Apple will also need to apply for necessary certifications from governments around the world, which might not be completed by the 2022 deadline. Also, the modem itself will have to be optimized for use across the globe, which will include compliance with laws in multiple jurisdictions. With all of that in mind, it is becoming clear that meeting the supposed deadline, reported by sources familiar with the company’s internal plans, will be quite an uphill battle. Fast Company’s report also claims that 2023 is more of a realistic goal, although Apple might try to release the new technology in two years’ time, anyway. Twitter Mac Some of the more dated reports have speculated about potential deadlines about this project, placing its release anywhere from 2021 to 2025. As for rumors about Apple’s interest and potential involvement with modem technology, such reports go back to 2014. Some of the company’s decisions, such as the partnership with Intel, was believed to be the result of plans to move on with the modem development, and its potential integration into A-series system-on-chip designs. It remains unclear whether or not Apple can complete the project by the deadline, but more reports are bound to emerge in months and years to come. BeInCrypto also previously reported on Apple’s Mac getting its own version of Twitter once again. What do you think about Apple’s new deadline? Do you think it is realistic, or will the company have to postpone the modem’s release? Leave a comment below and let us know.
