Those onboarded will be responsible for defining “a technology architectural direction of a greenfield area for Amazon’s advertising business using Blockchain technology,” the listing reads. Unfortunately, details are still sparse, but we can anticipate this to be an emerging sector within the company’s greater ecosystem. As the e-commerce company said, the new blockchain-based advertising division is a “greenfield project.” This means that the area is free for creativity, still untapped. Amazon clearly believes this sector to be a key area for growth moving forward, seeing little to no competition. However, it could take years before we see an actual product come to fruition. Verizon Wireless is also hiring for the space. StormGain Jeff Bezos’ worldwide company has been slowly carving a place for itself in the blockchain world. Amazon Management Blockchain, as part of Amazon Web Services, has been live for some time, allowing one to easily create and manage scalable blockchains. These are built open-source using Hyperledger Fabric and Ethereum. Amazon is thus no stranger to blockchain, but the new advertising fintech direction would be the first internal effort to build a network for Amazon’s own purposes. It remains to be seen what will emerge from Amazon’s new direction. As of now, no spokesperson has commented on the job posting which has it shrouded in further mystery.
