Nexus, formerly Action Square, is a development company contributing to CROSS Protocol, a framework that allows every game to issue its own token. It provides a transparent and secure environment where players fully control their in-game assets.

Henry Chang is the CEO of Nexus and founder of CROSS Protocol. He has a decade of experience at WeMade, where he was widely recognized as the “Founder of Wemix.” Having seen firsthand the limitations of centralized game asset control, he is now driving Nexus to support a decentralized future.

Unlike previous blockchain gaming initiatives that took years to develop, Nexus already has an established team. Explore how it plans to use its expertise and technology to accelerate the blockchain adoption in gaming.

What Sets CROSS Protocol Apart from Other Blockchain Gaming Projects?

Blockchain gaming is very popular because it decentralizes the gaming sector. However, few have successfully balanced developer friendliness, true ownership, and rapid deployment. CROSS Protocol tries to be unique by using a holistic approach.

“We combine a developer-friendly framework—complete with smart contract templates, SDKs, and APIs—with a commitment to true player ownership,” Henry Chang said.

One of CROSS Protocol’s biggest advantages is that it can launch new games in just three months. Previously, it required years to launch similar games. Additionally, governance and regulatory compliance are key aspects of its structure.

Supporting its ecosystem is Opengame Foundation, a Swiss-based organization that ensures adherence to MiCA regulations, while fostering transparency and scalability for developers and players alike.

True Ownership: Shifting Power from Developers to Gamers

One of the transformations CROSS Protocol brings to gaming is the concept of true ownership. Traditionally, game developers retain complete control over in-game assets, making it impossible for players to trade, transfer, or use them outside the game.

CROSS Protocol changes this by turning every in-game asset into a blockchain token.

“By granting players true ownership, we shift the power balance from centralized developers to the gamers themselves,” Chang added.

With blockchain-based assets, players can freely trade or transfer their in-game items. They can also use these assets across multiple games within the CROSS Protocol ecosystem. A new system like this will help create an economic model where digital assets hold real-world value.

However, a major challenge is allowing each game to have its own economy while maintaining interoperability. CROSS Protocol solves this by enabling every game to issue its token through a standardized framework.

“CROSS Protocol provides a standardized and developer-friendly set of tools—including smart contract templates, SDKs, and APIs—that enable any game to easily tokenize its assets.”

This approach tackles many issues. First, developers don’t need complex blockchain knowledge. They won’t need to learn about smart contracts, gas fee management, or wallet integration.

Secondly, standardized token formats ensure assets are transferable between games. Pre-built infrastructure speeds up deployment and lowers development expenses.

Simplifying Blockchain for Mass Adoption

Blockchain gaming has struggled with usability and mass adoption. CROSS Protocol addresses this by simplifying blockchain integration through ready-to-use toolkits that simplify smart contracts, gas fees, and wallet management.

“Our smart contract templates, SDKs, and APIs allow developers to implement token issuance and asset management quickly and with minimal blockchain expertise,” CEO Chang said.

For developers, CROSS Protocol makes things better by providing documentation for traditional game developers to transition into Web3.

However, asset fragmentation, the inability to transfer items between games, is a major issue in blockchain gaming adoption. CROSS Protocol solves this problem with an interoperability framework based on uniform tokenization

It also has a bridging technology that allows assets to move seamlessly across networks. CROSS Protocol uses QBFT consensus and dynamic gas fee delegation for fast and secure transactions.

“These elements create a unified ecosystem for seamless asset use and transfer across multiple platforms,” Chang explained.

The CROSS Token: Fueling the Ecosystem for Players and Developers

CROSS token is part of this gaming protocol. It serves multiple purposes within the ecosystem, driving value for players and developers.

“The CROSS token is the lifeblood of our ecosystem, serving multiple roles,” explains the CEO.

Among its key utilities are:

  • Transactional Currency: This token is the primary medium for in-game purchases and asset trading. Microtransactions within the CROSS Protocol depend on it.
  • Incentives and Rewards: Players earn tokens through gameplay, staking, and community engagement. The primary goal is to use the CROSS token to create loyalty and activity within the platform.
  • Economic Empowerment: Players can gain real ownership of in-game assets with this token. The best part is that these assets can appreciate and be freely traded.
  • Developer Monetization: The token allows developers to explore new revenue models. Developers can experience low transaction fees and monetization strategies without high infrastructure costs.

The Opengame Foundation: Supporting Ecosystem Growth

A key driver of sustainability and growth for CROSS Protocol, Opengame Foundation is a Swiss-based nonprofit dedicated to fostering innovation, regulatory compliance, and developer support.

“The Opengame Foundation, established in Zug, plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and sustainability of CROSS ecosystem,” Chang pointed out.

The activities of this foundation are based on three key areas:

  • Ecosystem Development: Supporting the expansion and scalability of CROSS exosystem by fostering collaboration, infrastructure growth, and long-term sustainability.
  • R&D Funding and Support: Facilitating research and integration of emerging technologies, including Layer 2 solutions and enhanced security features.
  • Developer Advocacy: Providing educational programs, hackathons, and comprehensive documentation to lower  barriers for new projects.
  • Regulatory Oversight:  Ensuring regulatory compliance and oversight. By promoting transparency and long-term viability, it helps CROSS Protocol to adhere with various regulatory frameworks, such as the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA).

Bridging Traditional and Web3 Gaming

CROSS Protocol’s expansion strategy involves attracting traditional gaming companies and Web3-native developers. It will use the expertise of its leadership, particularly from WeMade.

CROSS Protocol is introducing tools and strategies that make adoption easier for developers. These include SDKs, APIs, and smart contract templates. The intention is to lower the barrier of entry for studios unfamiliar with blockchain.

Furthermore, providing consulting services and technical support helps traditional gaming companies integrate blockchain technology. The ability to launch blockchain games in just three months makes this more attractive. In comparison, traditional game developers often have multi-year game development cycles.

CROSS Protocol is actively working with major gaming studios worldwide. This is part of their expansion strategies.

“We’re in advanced stages of discussions with several global gaming studios and blockchain innovators,” the team reveals. “We’ve already signed MOUs with over 10 game companies and are actively pursuing collaborations in key markets like China and the Middle East.”

These partnerships aim to pilot novel in-game economies. It will also enable cross-game asset transfers and help explore M&A opportunities for internal game development.

Upcoming Game Launches on CROSS Protocol

CROSS Protocol has many game launches in 2025 as part of its developmental plans. Set for Q1 2025, the CROSS Protocol mainnet launch will be followed by three blockchain-powered games in Q2. Each game is designed to show the protocol’s speed and flexibility.

The first game in the lineup is Dragon Flight. It is a reimagined mobile casual game that uses blockchain for asset trading through web and messaging platforms.

Ragnarok: Monster World uses a well-known IP to feature on-chain tokenization, allowing players to own and trade in-game items. Finally, CROSS Protocol will launch Rappelz M. This game is designed for cross-game asset interoperability and monetization models.

Before the end of 2025, CROSS Protocol plans to onboard 20+ games by the end of 2025. Already, the protocol has a roadmap that includes the following:

  • Aggressive Partnership Outreach: CROSS Protocol will collaborate with large and indie studios to expand the ecosystem.
  • Developer Incentive Programs: There will be grants, hackathons, and developer conferences to encourage adoption.
  • Community Building and Pilot Projects: CROSS Protocol will showcase real-world use cases through beta tests and joint launch events.
  • Marketing and Cross-Promotion: Expanding visibility through global partnerships and a planned Dubai office.

Addressing Challenges in Blockchain Gaming

While there’s a lot of potential, Henry Chang recognizes some key problems within the blockchain gaming sector. The number one thing is technical scalability. Developers must ensure that the infrastructure can handle high transaction volumes.

Also, regulatory compliance is another issue blockchain gaming projects face. Following global regulations and aligning with MiCA and other legal frameworks is often difficult. Adoption and educating users are other challenges. Developers need intuitive interfaces, documentation, and community-driven support to educate.

One of the biggest misconceptions about blockchain gaming is that it is purely speculative and financially driven. However, CROSS Protocol’s CEO says it is different.

“Blockchain technology empowers players with genuine asset ownership and creates innovative monetization models,” He explained.

Instead of traditional microtransactions, CROSS Protocol is creating a subscription-based model, similar to Steam’s global business strategy. This approach will help change gaming economics and drive mainstream adoption.

Conclusion

CROSS Protocol is a blockchain gaming project that bridges traditional gaming with Web3. Its multi-utility CROSS token, developer-friendly ecosystem, and strategic partnerships will help drive adoption. The Opengame Foundation backs the project with a roadmap that includes a mainnet launch and new game integration.

CROSS Protocol wants to change how players and developers engage with blockchain gaming. Its founder and CEO, Henry Chang, believes genuine asset ownership can improve blockchain gaming. The company focuses on scalability, regulatory compliance, and real-world utility to create a better blockchain gaming environment.
