The TON Core team released its roadmap for the first half of 2025, detailing a number of new features. These include major quality-of-life upgrades on several core functions and research for future revenue streams.

The firm recently re-established a partnership with Telegram, but declining GameFi revenues have created notable problems for its growth.

TON Sets Ambitious Roadmap for H1 2025

TON (The Open Network), a blockchain infrastructure project based on Telegram, just released its roadmap for the first half of 2025. This roadmap sets ambitious goals in several areas, from projects like a major mainnet upgrade to increased community collaboration.

“The TON Core team is bringing BIG updates in H1 2025! Here’s a sneak peek: Huge “Accelerator” Kernel update on Mainnet, new tools for validators, revamped Toncenter API (Actions, Pending, Emulation, Domains), UX improvements + collab with top community products, a Payment Network Layer 2 release, and more,” TON posted on X (formerly Twitter).

TON has grown considerably since Telegram severed direct ties with the project in 2020. The popular messaging app cited regulatory pressure in this decision, but the new regulatory environment under Trump has already opened new opportunities. TON enacted reforms and leadership changes to seize the opportunity, and it re-partnered with Telegram last week.

In this context, a few of TON’s roadmap goals become clearer. The Accelerator upgrade is one of the biggest agendas for this year, promising more stability, efficiency, speediness, and infinite sharding.

However, TON will also collaborate with community products like DeDust, MyTonWallet, TonScan.org, and ton.diamonds to build developer goodwill.

It’s rather clear that TON’s plummeting revenues from tap-to-earn games have been a key influence behind this expansion plan. Tap-to-earn and other GameFi apps have been major factors in TON’s revenue, and their decline is presenting serious troubles for the firm.

Although the network’s native token briefly recovered in December, it has declined at a steady rate throughout this month.

In short, the firm has its work cut out for it. The roadmap claims that TON will provide quality-of-life upgrades for most core functions alongside projects like sidechain research and community outreach.

The project’s revenue took a severe hit last month, but it is enjoying friendly regulations and a renewed partnership with Telegram. From here, it could succeed or fail.
