Sensorium, an extended reality startup known for its blockchain-based environments and the Sensorium Galaxy metaverse, is eager to get its hands on Apple’s new Vision Pro headset as it becomes one of the first tech developers to announce integration plans with the new device.
The Swiss company believes that the Vision Pro could be the missing link needed to turn virtual DJ sets, live performances, and other social events in virtual worlds into mainstream at-home entertainment.
Apple unveiled Vision Pro, its first dedicated augmented and virtual reality headset, at a closely-watched product launch event earlier this week.
The high-powered device features displays, sensors, cameras and computing components designed specifically for virtual and augmented reality, or what the developer dubbed “spatial computing”, that could signal the beginning of a new era in immersive and seamless digital experiences.
Sensorium has spent years developing AI-driven virtual avatars, spaces and music events in collaboration with a lineup of chart-topping artists, including David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren and Black Coffee in a bid to lead the future of entertainment in hyper-immersive VR settings. British dance music icon, Carl Cox, was recently announced as the first artist performing in VR inside the Sensorium Galaxy’s metaverse world – PRISM.
The company has pointed to the wide accessibility of its XR platforms, already available across portable devices and app stores, however noting that Vision Pro’s capabilities could take their Web3 and metaverse vision to an entirely new level.
“Apple’s first foray into mixed reality brings a great deal of validation to our industry and it has certainly raised our ambitions. We’re looking at fully integrating blockchain-based digital assets to enable enhanced immersive experiences with Vision Pro ,” says Alex Firsov, Sensorium’s Chief Web3 Officer.
Sensorium plans to release an NFT drop of unique avatar characters this summer that can be used across Web3 games and events.
With the release of Vision Pro next year, Sensorium envisions these avatars taking on a new role as virtual DJs and hosts for interactive home parties among a host of other capabilities the developer says it has started working on.
Some Apple critics have remained unimpressed by the tech giant’s lofty mixed reality ambitions, citing the lack of compelling use cases for the pricey headset.
However, others are looking at developers and startups like Sensorium to unlock the true potential of Vision Pro and push the technology in new directions.
“We are thrilled by the prospect of utilizing the unprecedented power of the M2 chip to its utmost capacity. We are gearing up to introduce mind-bending performances featuring photorealistic avatars of some of the world’s most renowned music stars, right into the living rooms of future Apple Vision Pro users. By bridging our metaverse with the tangible world through mixed reality, we’re not just delivering an immersive experience; we are creating a seamless portal that interlinks virtual and physical realities”, adds Sensorium’s Chief Metaverse Officer, Ivan Nikitin.
In a bid to further democratize the Web3 space and to accelerate the mainstream acceptance of its immersive experiences, Sensorium is setting its sight on creating a synergy between the Vision Pro and its blockchain-friendly virtual environments.
As the Vision Pro prepares to hit the market next year, Sensorium’s ambitious plans could well be the key to realizing Apple’s vision of a more immersive and interactive entertainment ecosystem, enabled by mixed reality.
