Sina Finance, one of China’s largest financial news providers, has just added support for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on its app. Users can now easily track price movements and check charts for major cryptocurrencies alongside traditional stocks and assets.
Sina Corp is one of the largest business-related media company in China with over 100M registered users. Now, for the first time, its media outlet Sina Finance will be listing cryptocurrency pricing on its front page. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will now be listed alongside stocks and other traditional assets for everyday investors to track the price. Although it may seem insignificant, the addition is noteworthy given that China has often been hostile to the cryptocurrency space. Bitcoin trading, for example, is largely banned in China. Despite this, one of the major financial news outlets is now showing Bitcoin’s price alongside traditional finance. This effectively means that tens of millions will now be exposed to Bitcoin’s price movements, further boosting it as a legitimate asset in the country. Other supported cryptocurrencies on Sina Finance include Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ripple (XRP), and Ethereum (ETH). So far, Sina Financial has not put out a press statement on these new additions to its platform. Regardless, it’s clear that the Chinese media outlet feels that the cryptocurrency space is becoming too large to ignore. In June, it was reported that that the cryptocurrency exchange Huobi was the 7th most-searched term in China’s Apple App Store. Across the board, search interest in cryptocurrencies is especially increasing in Asia. Although Bitcoin won’t be accepted in China anytime soon, trends seem to indicate that cryptocurrencies are back on the minds of many Chinese investors. Sina Financial’s addition of cryptocurrencies is an indication that times are changing for Bitcoin in China. Do you believe Bitcoin is becoming more popular in China? Let us know your thoughts below.
