TikTok is getting into the non-fungible token game with a debut collection featuring rapper and singer Lil Nas X.

Popular social media platform TikTok announced that it will be releasing its first NFT collection in November 2021. The collection, dubbed “TikTok Top Moments,” will debut with the help of hugely popular hip-hop artist Lil Nas X. According to the announcement, Lil Nas X is the first artist to drop an official TikTok NFT. In total, six TikTok videos will be minted as one-of-a-kind NFTs to go alongside a series of limited-edition digital collectibles featuring Lil Nas X.

Cutout artist Rudy Willingham was in charge of designing Lil Nas X’s NFT for TikTok. The NFT designed by Willingham is said to be “a hypnotic kaleidoscope of color and sound that caught the attention of millions, including Lil Nas X himself. Each of the 81 frames features Willingham’s signature cutouts, photographed against a background that reflects a different part of LNX’s genius.”

TikTok Top Moments NFTs

The moments chosen to be part of TikTok’s debut NFT collection are considered by the platform to be “culturally significant TikTok videos from some of our most beloved creators.” The group of creators joining Lil Nas X as part of the debut include singers Bella Poarch and Curtis Roach, comedian Brittany Broski, entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk, photographer Jess Marciante, and A.I. rapper FNMeka. According to TikTok, the creators chosen to take part in this project are “renowned for their creative cultural impact.”

Similar to Lil Nas X being paired up with Willingham, each contributor will be working with an NFT artist who will be creating each digital collectible. TikTok has partnered with COIN ARTIST, x0r, RTFKT, Grimes, and others to handle the art portion of this project. Proceeds from the sale of these NFTs will go straight to the creators and artists who took part and TikTok says this is a way that fans can show their appreciation for the creators they follow closely.

The collection will be made available on Ethereum and powered by ImmutableX starting on Oct. 6. Afterward, drops will occur weekly until the end of October. When the drops are complete, the NFTs will be minted and then can be traded gas-free on the Immutable X Layer-2.
