Google’s partnership with a security key-maker Yubico resulted in a new USB-C key, which should be available in Google Store as of now.
According to Google’s recent announcement, the tech giant is ready to release the new Titan security key. The company already released two other security keys in the past, both of which are being used as some of the best and most secure methods of dual authentication. They can be used for unlocking online services via Bluetooth, USB-A, or NFC. However, Google is always looking to improve and add more products, which is why it now came up with a new USB-C key. Google The new key functions rather similarly to the USB-A key, and it can be obtained from Google Store for around $40. The model reportedly does not feature NFC capabilities, which were present in the previous two models. However, it would appear that this is not too great a loss since USB-C keys are easy to plug in newer smartphones, whereas computers without a proper USB adapter can use Bluetooth. The key new key is compatible with all operating systems as previous models, with the exception of iOS, which is supported only by the Bluetooth key. The key will also be highly resistant to physical attacks, with its firmware being permanently sealed into a secure element hardware chip. Google Another thing to note is that Google created the new key in partnership with Yubico — a well-known security key maker. This is also quite clear from the first look at the new USB-C key, which looks very similar to YubiKey 5C, Yubico’s own model. The difference between them, however, lies in the fact that Yubico’s key supports additional protocols, which might make them more useful to some users. As for Google’s other keys, they were previously made available for $50 for both keys. However, with the launch of USB-C, Google will also make the two older models available for individual purchase, with $25 per key. A Bluetooth key will be available as well, for $35. What do you think about Google’s new security key? Did you use the older models? Let us know in the comments below.
