In Brief

  • Tesla has announced its latest product - a toy whistle based on Tesla’s Cybertruck design.
  • The whistle retails for 1,000 Dogecoin, but the limited edition product has already sold out.
  • The whistle may also double as a not-so-subtle dig at Twitter.

Elon Musk has invited his Twitter followers to “blow the whistle,” with the launch of a limited-edition Tesla Cyberwhistle, available only to customers willing to fork over 1,000 Dogecoin (DOGE) for the toy.

The Cyberwhistle is made from “medical-grade stainless steel” and is based on the same angular design as the Tesla Cybertruck, but arguably improves upon the original by removing its single biggest point of failure – the windows.

Unlike the twice-delayed Cybertruck, the Tesla Cyberwhistle was immediately available for anyone with the crypto to pay for it.

At a 1,000 Dogecoin price point, and with DOGE currently trading at $0.060225, the Tesla Cyberwhistle retails at over $60 in old people money.

It’s a price that Tesla fans seem more than agreeable to, with the whistles already listed “out of stock” on the company site.

Doge holders hear the whistle

The launch of the Cyberwhistle comes as a major legal case begins to loom large in Musk’s life. Earlier this year the billionaire mogul successfully bid $44 billion for Twitter, but later pulled out of the deal citing numerous issues and disclosure failures.

Musk alleges that Twitter misled him on the number of spambots and fake accounts on the platform.

It’s a point that Twitter’s former head of security Peiter Zatko would seem to agree with. According to Zatko, Twitter simply does not know how many spambots are on the platform, but what it does know seems to indicate the problem is much bigger than they are publicly willing to admit.

In late August Musk’s lawyers subpoenaed Zatko as a witness in their upcoming court hearing.

With the emergence of Zatko, the security chief turned Twitter whistleblower, Musk’s chances of winning the legal fight would appear to have markedly improved.

Just two weeks after the subpoena, and three after Zatko went public with the allegations, Tesla has launched the Cyberwhistle.

As far as metaphors go, it’s about as subtle as a steel ball thrown against a pane of armored glass.

A quick turnaround

With Tesla notoriously slow to launch new product lines, the question now may be how the company managed to design, produce, manufacture and launch a whistle with its own accompanying display box in just three weeks.

Ironically, Musk has been very quiet on the memecoin over the past year. Having been an avid commentator on DOGE in 2021. The crypto rallied to its all-time high of $0.73 in May 2021, right before Musk before on Saturday Night Live. However, the cryptocurrency has been on a constant decline since, hitting a low of $0.055 in June 2022.
