Legendary auction house Christie’s has announced that live Ethereum live bidding will be available at an upcoming auction.

Christie’s Auction House in London has announced an upcoming auction containing some of the first non-fungible tokens (NFTs) ever minted. The auction will also be the first of its kind to feature live bids in Ether (ETH)

Beginning on October 1, Christie’s will be offering the “Post-War to Present” auction, featuring more than 200 pieces of art. The artwork up for sale will span the Post-War era up to contemporary digital art. Highlights of the art sale include a group of works by Wayne Thiebaud from the Collection of the Frances Hamilton White Trust. Works from the collection include “Tomato Bowl,” and “Ridge Valley Farms Study,” which is expected to fetch around $1 million. Each Thiebaud in Frances’ collection was obtained directly from the artist’s studio.

The pièce de résistance of the collection is considered Helen Frankenthaler’s Warming the Wires, valued at between $1.5 and $2 million. Rounding out the collection is works from Joan Mitchell, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, and Andy Warhol.

NFTs and ETH at Christie’s

In addition to the aforementioned physical works, a set of 31 NFTs are also up for sale. The collection consists of a full set of 30 curio cards the rare editions, known as 17b. What makes these curio cards so valuable and noteworthy is the fact that they are some of the first artworks created on the Ethereum blockchain. The cards were created by Thomas Hunt, know as Mad Bitcoins, who was touting the future of NFTs since back in 2017. Cryptograffiti, Phneep, Luis Buenaventura, and Marisol Vengas were artistic collaborators on the project.

The cards are part of the larger “My Curio Cards,” collection. While not exactly a household name, the collection is listed as the sixth-ranked NFT project on OpenSea’s marketplace. Another aspect of the auction of note is that it will take place in Ether with live bids being accepted in the cryptocurrency. Christie’s claims this is the first time a leading auction house has offered live bids in ether.
