About the company
Polygon Labs develops Ethereum scaling solutions for Polygon protocols. Polygon Labs engages with other ecosystem developers to help make available scalable, affordable, secure and sustainable blockchain infrastructure for Web3. Polygon Labs has initially developed a growing suite of protocols for developers to gain easy access to major scaling solutions, including layer 2s (zero-knowledge rollups and optimistic rollups), sidechains, hybrid chains, app-specific chains, enterprise chains, and data availability protocols. Scaling solutions that Polygon Labs initially developed have seen widespread adoption with tens of thousands of decentralized apps, unique addresses exceeding 225 million, over 1.2 million smart contracts created and 2.56 billion total transactions processed since inception. The existing Polygon network is home for some of the biggest Web3 projects, such as Aave, Uniswap, and OpenSea, and well-known enterprises, including Robinhood, Stripe and Adobe. Polygon Labs is carbon neutral with the goal of leading Web3 in becoming carbon negative.
Job Summary
Your Responsibilities
šAs the technical lead for the Payments domain, you will design and build the core systems powering Polygon Labsā Open Money Stack. šArchitect and implement high-throughput, low-latency payment services in Go across fiat and blockchain-based flows šDesign greenfield distributed systems, including ledgering, settlement orchestration, reconciliation, and partner integration layers šBuild event-driven microservices using modern messaging systems and cloud-native patterns šDefine service boundaries, data models, and integration contracts across synchronous and asynchronous systems šEstablish engineering standards for reliability, observability, security, and performance across the Payments stack šLead technical design reviews and support other engineers through complex architectural decisions without formal people management responsibilities šCollaborate cross-functionally with Product, Compliance, and Infrastructure teams to deliver secure, enterprise-grade payment capabilities šContribute directly to production code daily and take ownership of system performance in live environments
What Youāll Need
š8+ years of backend engineering experience, including building high-availability, mission-critical financial or payment systems šStrong production experience in Go, with deep understanding of concurrency, memory management, and performance optimization šProven experience designing distributed, event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka or similar messaging systems) and microservices-based systems šExperience integrating with payment rails (e.g., ACH, SEPA, card networks) and/or blockchain-based payment flows (wallets, custody, stablecoins) šStrong understanding of cloud-native infrastructure (AWS and/or GCP), networking fundamentals, and containerized deployments (GCP preferred) šExperience building systems in regulated environments with security, auditability, and compliance considerations built into system design
