The Netherlands is a country in Northwestern Europe that has overseas territories in the Caribbean. It is a founding member of the EU, Eurozone, G10, NATO, OECD and WTO. Cryptocurrencies are not regulated in the Netherlands, mostly falling outside of the scope of financial regulations. However, some tokens qualify as an investment or security object. If a token is backed by an asset, it qualifies as an investment object. The government has stated numerous times that it does not want to prohibit currencies, but wants to regulate them. The dutch government is a proponent of regulating cryptocurrencies at an international level, due to their cross-border nature.
