Job Summary
In this role you will:
šServe as overall technical lead for Human Data, which is a core part of the Research organization. You will collaborate with product managers, researchers, and the rest of our engineering team to create new products or platforms around emerging research capabilities and unsolved customer needs. šArchitect, build, and design our tooling, infra, products, and evals that power our data collection and management platform, including collecting important training signals from products like ChatGPT, Dall-E, Sora, along with the key interfaces used by our AI human labelers. šIterate rapidly to improve user and developer experience both for our internal team as well as partner research teams while advancing scalability, performance, observability, and security. šUnderstand training and eval data needs from across all of OpenAI and research opportunities to improve our platform, and help develop our technical roadmap and prioritization. šMentor other very senior engineers / TLs, especially in building scalable systems, building optimal tools to help serve our customers, and prioritization and strategy. šHelp drive the high leverage projects for our team and ensure our team engagement is high and team, technical, and organizational blockers are resolved and milestones are delivered. šEnsure that our overall data collection platform is secure, scalable, highly available, and maximally useful. šThis role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
You might thrive in this role if you:
šHave past experience as a technical lead of a larger organization (Uber TL), serving as the technical lead for a large team (20 - 40+ engineers) or multiple engineering groups concurrently. šHave meaningful experience with building (and rebuilding) production systems to deliver new product capabilities and to handle increasing scale. šCare deeply about the end user experience and have a passion for partnering with researchers and take pride in building products to accelerate research. šHave a humble attitude, an eagerness to help your colleagues, and a desire to do whatever it takes to make the team succeed. šAre willing to both own important problems end-to-end, but also have good delegation skills and are willing to pick up whatever knowledge you're missing to get the job done. šBuild tools to accelerate your own (and your teammatesā) workflows, but only when off-the-shelf solutions wonāt do.
