About the company
Polygon Labs develops Ethereum scaling solutions for Polygon protocols. Polygon Labs engages with other ecosystem developers to help make available scalable, affordable, secure and sustainable blockchain infrastructure for Web3. Polygon Labs has initially developed a growing suite of protocols for developers to gain easy access to major scaling solutions, including layer 2s (zero-knowledge rollups and optimistic rollups), sidechains, hybrid chains, app-specific chains, enterprise chains, and data availability protocols. Scaling solutions that Polygon Labs initially developed have seen widespread adoption with tens of thousands of decentralized apps, unique addresses exceeding 225 million, over 1.2 million smart contracts created and 2.56 billion total transactions processed since inception. The existing Polygon network is home for some of the biggest Web3 projects, such as Aave, Uniswap, and OpenSea, and well-known enterprises, including Robinhood, Stripe and Adobe. Polygon Labs is carbon neutral with the goal of leading Web3 in becoming carbon negative.
Job Summary
About the role:
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Polygon Labs, you will play a key role in building OMSX, the unified gateway and dashboard for the Polygon Open Money Stack. OMSX is the primary interface through which developers and enterprises integrate with Polygon Labs' financial infrastructure, including payments, wallets, and other onchain services.
This is a greenfield opportunity to design and build backend systems from the ground up. You will work on high-scale infrastructure that will process hundreds of millions to billions in transaction volume, while shaping how developers interact with the Polygon Labs ecosystem. You will own meaningful parts of the backend architecture, contribute to critical system design decisions, and help establish the foundations for a platform that will power global money movement.
Responsibilities:
šDesign and implement scalable Go services that support high-throughput financial workloads šBuild and maintain APIs that integrate across multiple internal services and external financial systems šDevelop backend systems that handle large datasets with strong performance and reliability requirements šOptimize PostgreSQL queries and data models for high-scale production environments šImplement caching strategies and performance improvements using technologies such as Redis šContribute to system observability through structured logging, metrics, and monitoring šCollaborate closely with frontend and platform teams to deliver a seamless developer and user experience šParticipate in architectural discussions and make informed trade-offs across system design decisions
Requirements:
š5+ years of backend engineering experience, including 3+ years working with Go in production environments šStrong experience designing and building scalable, distributed systems and APIs šDeep knowledge of PostgreSQL, including query optimization and working with large datasets šExperience with caching strategies and systems such as Redis šProven ability to build systems from scratch and operate independently in fast-paced environments šSolid understanding of system design, data flows, and service-to-service integrations
Nice-to-have: šExperience building financial systems, payments infrastructure, or other high-scale transaction platforms šFamiliarity with developer-facing platforms (APIs, SDKs, dashboards) and developer experience best practices šExperience with observability tooling (metrics, logging, monitoring) in production systems šExperience with OLAP databases (such as ClickHouse, and BigQuery) for business intelligence and analytics šExposure to Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, or GitHub Actions šInterest in blockchain technology or financial systems
