In a surprising move, Apple is now selling Microsoft Xbox controllers to customers via its online store.
This follows the company’s iOS 13 update that brought with Apple Arcade and support for controllers like Sony’s Dualshock 4 for mobile phones, as BeInCrypto has previously reported. The iPad also saw support with iPad OS, and Apple TV now supports them as well.
The controller is the same price as you’d find it anywhere else, being $60. Of course, anyone interested in having a piece of hardware to play Apple Arcade likely already has one, but it seems they’re selling this now due to new customers that are being brought into gaming with the Arcade. However, one should note that the DualShock 4 isn’t up for sale on Apple’s store. That could change in the future, however, as there is a myriad of reasons Microsoft’s remote is up first. It could simply be that they reached the end of a deal before Sony. Interesting is the choice for Apple to list a controller, though, considering Apple Arcade is essentially a direct competitor to Xbox One at this point. While the two compete via their respective operating systems (Windows and the Mac), the former has always dominated in the gaming space comparatively. That said, Apple doesn’t have its own controller to compete with others, so it may just be listing this for customer convenience. Recently, Apple came under fire for delisting an app from its App Store that assisted Hong Kong protestors in finding one another, as BeInCrypto has previously reported. In other gaming news, Sony officially announced its PlayStation 5 console yesterday, which will serve as another competitor to Apple and its Arcade division during the holidays next year. However, Apple has all of that time to fortify its offering and provide something that could compete with Sony and everyone else. What do you think about Apple offering Xbox controllers?
