Influential women in crypto in 2024: Americas
Alena Afanaseva
I built the media covering all things web3. We publish in 18 languages with the aim to make new technology knowledge accessible worldwide.
Two years ago, our team had grown three times its size over half a year, and this rapid expansion began to create chaos throughout our workspace. Those months were the worst for me as I questioned my ability to manage the team effectively and establish the right goals to inspire and align the members. It was a disaster. I felt like I was at my lowest point, but no matter what happens, I always choose to keep going and focus on solutions. With the help of a new HR team and system, we were able to rebuild the corporate culture and set our focus on the long-term strategy.
Maggie Wu
I contribute to the web3 space as the CEO and co-founder of two companies. Krypital Group, established in 2017, focuses on investing in blockchain and crypto projects, supporting hundreds over the past seven years and driving industry growth. Additionally, our compliant crypto platform TruBit in the Latin American market provides financial services and liquidity to millions of users, leading in compliance and technological advancements within the region’s crypto industry.
Under our umbrella, we’ve also launched Mexico’s first stablecoin pegged to Mexican Pesos, called MMXN, further solidifying our presence and innovation in the crypto space.
During the early years of my entrepreneurship journey in Latin America, I faced a huge challenge in navigating compliance issues. It was a period of uncertainty; however, we confronted these challenges head-on with determination and a dedicated team.
Through perseverance and unwavering commitment, we overcame these hurdles, teaching me the invaluable lesson of resilience and the importance of staying true to my goals. This experience has been instrumental in driving my success in the blockchain space.
Gabby Kusz
I am Gabriella Kusz, a Senior Fellow at AI 2030, an organization advancing responsible innovation in the AI space, and an Advisor in Operations to TCS, which enhances freight financing terms for the trucking industry through AI and blockchain settlement.
I served as the former CEO of the Global Digital Asset Association (GDCA). In 2023, the American Banker named me among the “Top 20 Most Influential Women in Fintech’. I am a true ambassador for blockchain & web3 and am regularly named as one of the top c-suiters in industry publications.
Michelle O’Connor
Over the last ten years, I’ve been at the forefront of navigating the complexities and evolving dynamics of the crypto space. My contributions have been instrumental in scaling multiple companies from their nascent stealth phases to robust, later-stage entities. This has required a deep understanding of the technological underpinnings of blockchain and crypto-assets and an acute awareness of market needs, regulatory environments, and the ability to innovate and adapt swiftly.
My approach has always been holistic, focusing on the growth of the companies I’ve been involved with and the broader impact on the ecosystem. By championing transparency, security, and user empowerment, I’ve helped democratize access to financial services, contributing to the economic inclusion of underbanked and unbanked populations worldwide.
Furthermore, my role as an active advisor and board member across numerous projects has allowed me to share my knowledge, mentor emerging leaders, and shape the future direction of this industry. My commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the crypto space has been unwavering, and I understand that diverse perspectives drive innovation and growth.
My nomination for the 100 Women in Crypto list for 2024 is a reflection of over a decade of impactful work in the crypto and blockchain industry, where I’ve scaled businesses across B2B, B2C, and B2B2C models and served as an active advisor and board member on numerous projects.
My journey has been marked not only by professional achievements but also by overcoming significant personal challenges as the first female employee in my company to become a mother, facing the absence of maternity leave policies, and battling postpartum anxiety without support. This experience highlighted the critical need for equity and inclusion in the workplace, propelling me to advocate for change.
Ana Ojeda
I’ve been helping and onboarding people in LATAM to crypto. Usually, people are unbanked with little or no resources. I also helped several crypto exchanges and wallets enter the LATAM market as compliance and BD manager. Last but not least, I’ve been advising regulators from different countries to understand and regulate crypto in a friendly way.
I shifted from a regular lawyer to a crypto lawyer in 2018. It was challenging! At that time, everyone told me that cryptos were scams and that no one would hire my services cause no one was interested in scam coins. That’s how Legalrocks was born. The first Venezuelan firm in LATAM is 100% dedicated to crypto, which I’m very proud to have founded.
Maria Fiorentini
I’m part of the Mujeres en Crypto Core Team, co-founder of Mujeres en Derecho, and Kleros Fellow, and I am looking forward to creating a precedent system for this decentralized justice platform. I also publish lots of articles and papers related to web3, mostly about decentralized justice, regulations, and NFTs. I also create content on social media about law and technology
(TW: @MariaFiorenti and IG: @meryfiorentini).
I had a rough time choosing what to do for a living. I like so many things that I felt overwhelmed by having to choose only one career path. However, as I started my law career, I discovered there are so many areas where I can focus. Nowadays, I specialize in LegalTech, and I also create Social Media Strategies for Mujeres en Crypto and for my own social media.
So, basically, I would advise young women to take a leap of faith and believe in what life has prepared for them. As you go along the way, you will start figuring things out; there’s no need to have it all figured out at the beginning of your journey.
Pina
I am attentive to the women in the crypto Telegram community seven days a week. Additionally, I have a community where I repost everything related to crypto in Argentina.
When I started in the crypto world, I lurked in communities without speaking up, swallowing all my questions because I didn’t want to be told that the answer was on the internet.
However, there were things that, no matter how much I searched online, I couldn’t understand. So, I began privately messaging some people who kindly started answering those questions for me. That’s how I started to lose the fear of asking and consulting. Nowadays, I’m part of several community teams, and I have my own community.
Mariangel Garcia
I’m a web3 digital marketing specialist with eight years of leveraging blockchain to deliver financial solutions to unserved minorities in Latin America, collaborating with major industry players, and now expanding to the Middle East and Asia.
I’m Venezuelan, and since my teenage years, I was losing access to opportunities. This taught me that developing my own skills was the only key to escaping the situation in my country. Despite my parents not being able to afford English lessons, I taught myself English. At 15, I won a scholarship from the Department of State to visit Washington and learn about leadership. Those leadership values became my core guide when I led ambassador programs and regional teams years later at Binance, managing almost 100 ambassadors worldwide.
Why is this significant story a challenge? Because I was, and still am, insecure, dealing with impostor syndrome every day like many women. Sadly, our country’s situation often reminded us that our challenges were bigger than our dreams, suggesting we might eventually have to give them up. That little girl of 15 years old cried out of fear just hours before her scholarship interview. But on the day of it, she was strong and proved to herself that she could be strong and make everything she dreamed of possible. And I remind myself of that moment every time I plan to achieve something big. Sometimes, you don’t have to be the best, but you can stand out by doing your best and trusting in yourself.
I want to share this with many women: sometimes, the best resource you have is yourself if you believe in your own potential before anyone else.
Helo Passos
I am an entrepreneur in the sector and one of the pioneers in the web3 games sector in Latin America, I founded the largest web3 games community in 2021 with 30,000 members, I sold my first startup in 2022, and we are helping thousands of people through financial access with games, because of that, I was Forbes Under 30 in Brazil 2024, one of 10 most influent people in crypto in Brazil by Brazil Crypto Reports, and finalist (top six) Women in Web3 by Women In Tech.
One of the worst moments I had in my career that made me completely change my perception of the world was when I had a burnout in a startup I was working on in 2017; at the same time was the period when I discovered blockchain, decided to undertake and live a life that had more to do with my purpose and values but within the technology market.
Rossmarie Dávila
I am part of a team of Women in Crypto; I mentor women from Latin America and Spain. I do workshops and events. I am an ambassador for Vara network and Polkadot.
The hardest moment was to leave my traditional job in banking and focus on the community, spread blockchain content, and do events because it’s scary to leave stability.
Veronica Botana
I am a member of a community that works for women development in blockchain technology.
I decided to study blockchain from zero. I contacted communities and assisted with events and classes. I dedicated a lot of time to this project, and I have to continue studying a lot. Nowadays, I am a member of a community that works for the development of other women in blockchain technology and finance knowledge.
LC (Laura) Cole
I am an AI, blockchain, crypto, and web3 attorney.
I was at a point in my legal career where I was questioning whether I should continue practicing law because it became so unrewarding, and then I started following my curiosity into tech and found an area of law I loved.
Connie Bianchi
I’m part of the core team of Mujeres en Crypto, a community that educates women in the crypto ecosystem.
I was encouraged to speak in public at an event we held with Women in Crypto. Since that day, I have been passionate about attending talks as a speaker. Before that, I was afraid of saying the wrong thing or not being able to answer the audience’s questions. The support of the community was fundamental.
Christina Cartagena
I have a development and marketing agency that has worked on various projects, from NFTs to smart contract automation for large companies. In 2021, I hosted the first in-person post-COVID limitations conference in Miami, FL. The event sold out, and the subsequent events were even larger, with highlights such as auctioning the first NFT granting physical car ownership and having a metaverse and AR component.
I am also the City Leader for BitAngels (the Y-Combinator of Web3, having launched projects like ETH, STORJ, and WAX). Further, I’m invited to speak and host conferences and called upon by my alma mater to assist in blockchain advising. I’ve been in the industry since 2013 and am currently working on providing a crypto database for Wall St.
One of the most challenging parts of being a woman in this space is getting respect. Unfortunately, it is a male-dominated space, but I’ve managed to get respect and form strong relationships by demonstrating my subject matter expertise.
One specific moment was when I was hosting a pitch competition. Before it started, an older male entrepreneur who was participating came up to me and started to boast about his project while diminishing others. He even commented that he thought it was “silly to be competing amongst girls.” *He didn’t know I was the host.
Fast forward to pitch time, and the female-led teams all did a great job answering technical questions, but he couldn’t answer any. In fact, his pitch was only an idea; he didn’t even have an MVP.
After the event, he came up to me and apologized. He said he didn’t realize I was the host nor that I was so knowledgeable in the space.
The point to make here is that for any woman in web3/tech, it could be hard to get respect. However, if you remain calm, knowledgeable, and confident above all else, you’ll attract the right people and move mountains.

I’m currently the CEO of Trust Wallet, a leading crypto wallet and web3 gateway. We’re on a long-term mission to empower ownership for everyone, working tirelessly to ensure people can access opportunities and explore web3 easily and securely. I strive to add value in everything I do with the company, leading a team of engineers, security professionals, marketers, product specialists, and more. Together, we’re committed to our vision of becoming the most trusted hub for web3 experiences, aiming to onboard the next billion users.
My advice to those thinking about taking a leap into blockchain is simple: focus on what you can offer and how you can add value, not what you think you lack. Value-driven work transcends barriers. My path into the blockchain industry began by accepting a significant pay cut for a role demanding versatility and focusing on contribution over prestige. This approach propelled me from an assistant position to becoming the CEO of a leading web3 company, Trust Wallet.
However, my challenges didn’t stop upon reaching the CEO milestone. Leading a team in a male-dominated and technically complex field during challenging times required humility, hard work, and a continuous learning mindset, which have been key to overcoming obstacles and achieving success.
Megan Murray
I am an Operations Manager at ATX DAO and Co-Founder/Organizer for ATX Women in Web3.
We experienced significant challenges with our legal structure for ATX DAO. Without getting too technical, the original formation as an LLC quickly became difficult to navigate for a 200+ member organization. However, we needed some degree of business registration to operate, so we truly were in a rock and a hard place. After months of work to organize the appropriate professionals, we transitioned the organization to a more appropriate UNA (unincorporated nonprofit association), which is much more suitable for how a DAO operates. This was truly a team effort, and as someone who is not an accountant or attorney, we relied heavily on our network to guide us in the right place. The willingness of people to help us achieve a successful outcome was incredible, and we are in a better position now because of the generous efforts of many others.
I have been in male-dominated fields my entire career. When I began my journey in the blockchain space, I found such a great and talented community in ATX DAO. I have also been inspired by other female-focused organizations, such as Austin Women in Technology, which is broadly focused on tech with a strong community and super organized. These organizations influenced my co-founder and me to start the ATX Women in Web3 community to create a space for women to dip their toes into the blockchain.

I bring over 15 years of leadership experience to the table. As Chief of Staff, I work closely with founders to keep things running smoothly and make strategic decisions. My knack for talent development and process improvement helps us thrive in this exciting space!
I was let go from my corporate job in events marketing early in my career, forcing me to re-evaluate my path forward. Rather than letting the setback define me, I chose to pivot and rebrand myself as an operations guru since the skill sets were similar, just with a different application. By focusing on operations, I made myself more appealing to hiring managers in the midst of a tough job market.
This transition not only helped me navigate the economic downturn of the time, it allowed me opportunities to expand my knowledge base and skill set over the next decade or so, moving into roles with increasing responsibility and visibility. Eventually, it led me to a senior-level Chief of Staff role in web3, a path I certainly could not have predicted back in 2009.
This journey has taught me the importance of resiliency, rolling with the punches and personal branding. Every door that closes is an opportunity to choose a different door and see where it leads.

I have successfully contributed to a diverse array of web3 activations across digital assets, augmented reality, metaverse shopping, virtual wearables, NFC-chipped goods, and smart products. I am a passionate advisor, speaker, and content creator for web3 brands, helping to educate the masses and onboard users into this next era of the internet.
I also serve as a Strategic Advisor for the New York Culture Club (NYCC), tying physical products and experiences to the blockchain. I am building a Blockchain Journal as a Customer Experience Analyst — writing editorially for enterprises to learn how to utilize blockchain technologies for enhanced consumer journeys.
Diving into web3 as a young Gen Z woman, I’ve felt the exhilaration of shaping a space where there’s no set playbook. Sure, it’s been a mix of trial and error, but that’s where the thrill lies, especially in an industry craving diverse voices. There was this one time, feeling overshadowed in a room full of “tech bros,” my ideas struggling to find daylight.
But instead of shrinking back, I leaned in harder and amplified my voice, and eventually, my concepts were recognized and celebrated. It taught me the power of persistence and the critical need for women to carve out our place in this next era of the internet. It’s all about breaking molds, reshaping the financial system through decentralization, and ensuring we’re not just at the table but leading the conversation.
Gabriela Olivares
I’m a community manager and a content writer. I usually make content about crypto & AI.
I’m a Venezuelan immigrant. I think emigrating is one of the hardest things I have ever had to go through. It’s leaving your home, family, friends, and probably your comfort zone to live in a new country with huge new challenges, where you probably don’t know anyone and have to start from scratch.
Months before emigrating, my boyfriend (now husband) introduced me to the cryptocurrency world . He told me about Bitcoin and Steemit, and I became fascinated by the concept of blockchain technology. In fact, that was one of the first things I wrote about online. Steemit, with its similarity to blogging platforms and its founders’ philosophy, really drew me in.
I quickly realized this was a new and exciting space. It was early 2017, and despite Bitcoin being nine years old, many people still didn’t know about this technology. They were unaware of its potential to generate income and fundamentally change our lives.
Inspired to help others, I became a volunteer in the community. I wrote content to guide others on what crypto was, how they could start creating content on the platform, and the projects the team had in mind. A simple article I wrote explaining how to style text using Markdown gained so much popularity.
When I migrated, I stopped using the platform. Still, my curiosity about distributed digital ledgers designed to be secure, decentralized, immutable, and transparent pushed me forward to keep researching and learning about crypto. This was especially important coming from Venezuela, a country plagued by inflation, corruption, and centralized power.
Lynne Marlor
I am the past chair of the BBA, a co-founder of Women in Digital Assets, and have served as a project manager for the Wendell August NFT project. Additionally, I am a global speaker and considered a thought leader in the field.
Just do it! There are several hurdles for an institutional financier.
Lori Souza
I am an educator, speaker, entrepreneur & leader of the Women in Crypto Linkedin group.
Yes, I was laid off from the corporate world during the dot com recession while my children were school-age. I struggled as a single mother with no income, applied for 100s of jobs, and the economy was not good for tech jobs. However, my credit line was great. So, with a strict budget, I used it to gain more education in a new field and started up my first business.
I earned my first sales commission after ten months. It takes commitment, discipline, perseverance, and, most of all, believing in yourself that you can do it! There are no obstacles, only perceived obstacles. I have been working as an entrepreneur, owning and operating several businesses ever since.
Tess Hau
As a venture capitalist, I invest, and I dive in to assist founders in building successful companies, leveraging my entrepreneurial background. I’m a sought-after public speaker and thought leader in tech, startups, AI, blockchain, female equality, and more. I volunteer my time a lot to mentor and educate leaders to help move the needle in Web3. I further launched Gaia Labs to give back to the entrepreneurship community and help mentor many founders.
Lack of female mentorship and community in blockchain technology can lead to feelings of isolation, especially with only 3% of founders being female. To address this, I founded Gaia Labs, spotlighting female talent while fostering a supportive environment. I wanted to give back and mentor many females. Surrounding yourself with a strong support team is crucial; mentors and a mission-driven workforce are essential for success.
Don’t hesitate to seek assistance; everyone faces challenges, and learning from others is invaluable. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness but a smart strategy for growth. However, it’s vital to vet mentors and advisors carefully to ensure their credibility and relevance. Embrace diverse perspectives and adapt advice to make informed decisions for your career success.
Regina Sadykova
I am currently handling communities and influencer relations at TRON DAO. I have seven years of experience in crypto PR.
This is a predominantly male industry. Sometimes, you have to prove yourself again and again. Once, one of my potential clients just got offended when I started asking uncomfortable questions about their blockchain (about the technician’s characteristics).
They started dismissing me and trying to mislead me. I didn’t get that contract, but instead, I remained truthful to myself and my standards.
Kaitlin Argeaux
I founded CryptoMondays London in 2018 with the view of providing a safe, accessible space where anyone could learn about all things web3. I prioritize education and providing value for the London crypto/blockchain community. We are one of the largest and longest-running meet-ups in the city, with over 7,000 members and over 100 attendees per event, and we are completely non-profit and volunteer-led.
I am also the newly appointed Publisher for “Blockbeat” — a new digital asset vertical in City AM newspaper. I use this role to provide education for readers as well as to highlight the brilliant contributions of our community, with a special emphasis on women in tech.
When Covid hit, I thought we were doomed. For a couple months we just cancelled our events and hoped for the best. When it became clear that lockdown wasn’t letting up any time soon, I made the decision to try hosting our events online. Initially, I thought no one would come, as we were known for our IRL “vibe” and energy. However, I soon learned that online events were an opportunity.
We were no longer limited by geographical location, and many “star” speakers located abroad became options for us to host. People were also generally less busy, so we used that to our advantage, too. Our in-person attendance numbers were hitting around 50-60, but online, we were garnering hundreds of participants.
Our membership swelled exponentially, and the sense of belonging and community was amplified during a difficult time for many. Instead of letting the pandemic beat us down, we used it as an opportunity to grow and expand our numbers and outreach.
Rebecka Marriott
I’ve worked in the space for three years now, collaborating on different projects and bringing them to life.
Overcoming the idea that you don’t know enough or that your input isn’t valued. No one has your experience and your view on different things, and that might be exactly what’s missing in the conversation. Blockchain is just another industry; find people and communities to help you grow and build you up.
Influential women in crypto in 2024: Africa
Devon Krantz
I’ve been involved in blockchain and web3 since 2015, and since then, I’ve dedicated myself to driving innovation and fostering inclusivity throughout my career. A number of my past experiences, such as founding Web3 Sanctuary (A next-gen web3 ed-tech platform) and co-founding Linum Labs (a leading global web3 development agency), have revolved around further developing the web3 ecosystem through product development, education, and community aggregation in the industry.
My journey so far has been focused on leveraging blockchain technology to create more accessible and equitable systems for humans, with a specific focus and interest on impact in Africa. This involves spearheading technological advancements and cultivating a space where diversity of thought and inclusion are paramount.
Through strategic planning, team empowerment, and cross-functional collaboration with companies and protocols from across the globe, I aim to demystify and democratize the world of web3, ensuring it serves as a tool for empowerment and societal progress.
I am passionate about empowering digital futures and building web3 communities. I have spent a large portion of my time over the past few years doing exactly this, having organized over +100 meetups, events, and hackathons, including EthCapeTown in 2019, which brought Vitalik to South Africa. These efforts provide accessible and comprehensive web3 knowledge and skills to anyone interested in learning, which I believe is essential for the evolving digital landscape.
Venturing into the blockchain industry and taking on the challenge of VC funding has felt like navigating uncharted waters, where perseverance and adaptability are your best allies. A defining moment in my career was the arduous process of raising capital for my startup in the middle of a bear market.
This challenge was a financial hurdle and a stark encounter with the gender biases still wildly prevalent in the tech and economic sectors. Facing skepticism and overcoming doubts about my vision in a traditionally unwelcoming environment taught me invaluable lessons about resilience and believing in myself and my mission. It was humbling but also helped shape who I am and what I truly want to do with my life — I left with an even stronger will and resolve.
Radiyya Hajat
I handle operations, marketing, and community building at a web3 dev house.
I began my professional career as a fashion model. At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, I realized I hadn’t positioned myself in a stable job. I had then been exposed to cryptocurrency and web3 and took a liking to the ethos of decentralization. In finding the industry, I decided it best to upskill myself towards a stable career in tech and challenge myself and the stereotype that we often place on others, which is viewing people and their skills as one-dimensional.
Alice Anangi
I founded Crypsense Digital Group, Africa’s first women-led institutional-grade digital assets capacity building and management platform. We empower individuals and institutions on the entire web3 digital assets space through our gamified online academy and structured workshops for industry leaders, regulators, and policymakers, support institutions across multiple African countries in algorithmic-based asset management solutions, interoperable cross-border payment collections, settlements, on and off-ramps and also have an institutional tokenization launchpad.
Being a startup in the pre-seed stage and building infrastructure while trying to manage a sustainable runway has been a massive challenge. However, having a great vision, management, negotiation, resilience, and leadership skills has kept us afloat to a point where we have been revenue-positive without raising more funds.
Right now, I have learned the importance of generating revenue early and have focused more on scaling the business and generating more revenue for growth. This was the best decision ever because I am building a revenue-positive Pan-African company that is self-sustaining.
Nicole Carvalho
I am a seasoned marketing professional with a knack for navigating both B2B and B2C landscapes, ensuring products and services connect with their intended audiences. My passion extends beyond traditional marketing into product development and leading diverse teams toward success. My expertise spans a wide range of industries, with a particular focus on DeFi, GameFi, and NFTs.
Beyond the strategic and digital, I dedicate a significant portion of my work to people’s development, guiding them to enhance their self-image and become the best versions of themselves. This aspect of my role not only enriches our team’s dynamic but also deeply influences our projects’ success, reflecting a blend of innovation, strategy, and personal growth.
Reflecting on my career, my journey from traditional marketing (web2) to the cutting-edge world of blockchain (web3) stands out as a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the strength of leveraging one’s unique background.
Having started my own marketing agency early on, I quickly learned the value of hard work, innovation, and the importance of reputation. Despite being a newcomer, my agency secured contracts typically reserved for well-established names. This early success wasn’t just about proving my capabilities; it was about challenging the status quo and outperforming seasoned competitors, many of whom were men with more recognized names in the industry.
Transitioning to blockchain, however, presented a new set of challenges. The space was not only technically daunting but also culturally different from what I was used to. It required an even thicker skin and relentless perseverance.
My turning point in blockchain came when I recognized that my extensive background in traditional marketing, combined with my firsthand understanding of the crypto enthusiast’s mindset (having been a “degen” myself), was indeed my superpower. This unique mix enabled me to empathize deeply with our target audience and anticipate their needs and motivations in a way that others couldn’t.
I capitalized on the qualities that set me apart — my innovative problem-solving skills and my creative prowess in engaging users. My approach wasn’t just about adapting to the new landscape; it was about redefining it, making the complex world of blockchain accessible and engaging to a broader audience.
This journey has reinforced my belief in the power of embracing one’s distinct path. For those navigating the transition to blockchain or any other new field, remember that your unique experiences and perspectives are invaluable assets. They enable you to approach problems creatively and connect with your audience on a deeper level. Embrace your differences, lean into your strengths, and let them propel you forward in your career.

At InnMind, I contribute to the web3 space by providing a platform where innovative startups with talented web3 teams, seasoned investors, and industry professionals can connect and create synergies.
My focus is on fostering a supportive ecosystem that accelerates the growth of web3 projects through access to resources, mentorship, and investment opportunities. We at InnMind work tirelessly to bridge the gap between emerging blockchain technologies and market adoption, ensuring that visionary ideas receive the support they need to flourish and redefine the technological sector.
In the entrepreneurial world, every success story is also a tale of adversity faced and overcome. InnMind’s journey is no exception. We began as a bootstrapped startup, fueled by a vision to empower tech entrepreneurs across the globe. Despite skepticism from traditional investors, we persisted independently, favoring a lean approach.
However, entrepreneurship is a path riddled with mistakes, and we made our share. To keep our operations afloat, I made a personal sacrifice: I sold my only apartment. Yet, due to unforeseen errors in judgment and misplaced trust, our resources dwindled rapidly, leading us to the brink of collapse. As a founder, a single mother, and an expat, the weight of impending failure was crushing.
But it’s in the darkest times that two forces can shine through: an unwavering belief in your mission and the people who stand beside you. My co-founders rallied, forgoing pay, revising strategies, and eliminating excess, transforming our trajectory from near failure to growth.
Now, InnMind stands as a robust platform for web3 founders, attracting the very investors and partners who once turned away. This turnaround taught me the invaluable lesson that true allies are revealed not in success, but in hardship. We’ve built an “unkillable” team with Kate, Vitalik, Irina, Alex and those who joined us later, all united by a shared vision, and I’ve honed my instincts to better judge character and fit for our mission.
To those embarking on this journey, expect a rollercoaster. You’ll find countless reasons to quit, but if you have just one to persevere and the right people by your side, you can conquer insurmountable odds.

I inform, connect & empower emotionally intelligent web3 & immersive tech founders who contribute to improving the world.
I returned from one year of maternity leave 18 months ago back into self-employment within web3. So much had changed in such a short amount of time. NFTs had exploded in 2021/2022 & the metaverse & creator economy were more than emerging from nearly nowhere. I felt obsolete. Where did I fit in now? Even after six years working within web3 & with a global network of world leaders, my self-worth & confidence were eroded.
Fast forward 18 months & I am fully back in the flow; with the help of some incredible support ecosystems, I now represent Women in Immersive Tech Europe, Association of Women in Crypto, BlockW, Blockchain Ireland & the Impact Innovation Foundation.
Startups regularly referred to me for advice; I broke into the VC industry & continue to build my future in that space (baby number two arrives in June 2024 & I can’t wait to see how I grow & who I become from this next adventure!). I was voted one of the Top 100 Women in the VC & StartUps Ecosystem in Ireland & have been approached by BelnCrypto to feature on this incredible list.
I tell this story to reach any woman reading this who feels “not enough” for any reason. You ARE enough, just as you are. By connecting with ecosystems, namely every one I mentioned above, you will find one by one women & allies who will pull you forward, elevate & empower you until you no longer need the validation of others to see your worth. At that point, you will emerge as a leader who shines your light and leads the way for others.

I have been working in the web3 space for three years, specializing in communications across various sectors, including crypto exchanges, GameFi, and a security token project. My role involves simplifying complex concepts in blockchain and web3 into layman’s terms, encouraging more people to learn about the technology and its potential to enhance efficiency worldwide. Additionally, I actively participate in creative communication campaigns to brand the industry positively to the general public.
Back when I was a female founder at the age of 24, I often faced prejudice, with some investors questioning my competence based on my age. My approach was to confront the issue directly by asking, “Are you judging me by my age?” to make them realize their discriminatory behavior. Unfortunately, incidents like this were not uncommon, and even today, some men avoid discussing the topic because it makes them uncomfortable and unsure of how to address it.
However, compared to traditional finance, the crypto space is already more inclusive for minorities, as information is more openly accessible, creating a more level playing field. Nevertheless, there is still work to be done to educate everyone to be inclusive regardless of gender, race, or age.

I’m a co-founder of a web3 gaming studio.
Michaela Malatín
I actively educate beginners in web3, NFT, and blockchain, onboarding numerous individuals to the industry. I speak at various events on related topics. As a co-founding member of NFT Insights, I explore NFTs, web3, and blockchain technology, aiming to advance diversity and inclusion in tech.
Through my role at RedHat and NFT Insights, I strive to make the tech and blockchain sectors more inclusive. My mentorship and leadership efforts empower others to excel, while my speaking engagements disseminate knowledge in the field.
The moment of being the only female in DevOps or crypto venues presents an extra challenge to establish oneself as the voice of the topic. I had to embrace my true self, not conforming to a male role or quitting. I will never give up, as the future me is counting on my perseverance.
These moments will occur for many of us, but with proper cross-national, gender, or age education and role modeling, we can create a ramp-up stage for those who need it most.
Malak Albaw
I worked in PR with Animoca-backed gaming studios, writing articles on physical NFTs and gamification aspects of rewarding communities. Additionally, I run a crowdfunding agency that raised funds for startups in both web2 and web3 via Republic and Kickstarter. Currently, I work in parallel with a web3 software studio as a global business development manager, where I travel worldwide to attend conferences, help web2 brands enter web3, and connect founders with developers.
I faced challenges as an expat in Italy and a woman in tech, with limited opportunities and a male-dominated workplace. Transitioning from a traditional SaaS company to web3, I immersed myself in blockchain through conferences, networking, and self-learning. Despite my non-technical background, I gradually grasped concepts like L1 and L2 blockchains and gained confidence in workshops. I realized everyone was new to the space, reinforcing the importance of self-learning and community engagement in becoming a “blockchain baddie.”

I’m a passionate and dynamic communication consultant who loves cutting-edge technology and a vision for the future. As a mother, preparing my three-year-old daughter for the world ahead has led me to discover my calling in communication, making it my favorite profession.
Throughout history and across the globe, the position of women has been a topic of significant discussion and analysis. As a mother of a daughter and a communicator, I embarked on a journey to pursue my Ph.D. at 38.
This decision was not taken lightly; it stemmed from a desire to make a mark during a period of conceptual transformation. I have aimed to contribute to a world where future generations, especially girls like my daughter, can live in a society that values and respects their contributions equally. My professional background and challenges as a woman in my field further fuel this drive.
Through my academic and professional endeavors, I aspire to inspire and empower my daughter and other young women and minority groups to overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams, especially in areas like blockchain that are at the forefront of technological innovation.
Alice Skhabovska
I bridge the gap between complex web3 technology and user-friendly experiences through my co-founded design agency, UNIPAWS. We transcend mere aesthetics by collaboratively crafting intuitive and visually captivating interfaces.
As full-fledged partners, we go beyond execution, actively brainstorming features, offering constructive arguments, and proposing improvements (even code modifications) to ensure an exceptional user experience. Our portfolio, including Smart Places, PokerDAO, and P2E Rollabit, exemplifies our ability to transform innovative ideas into user-friendly realities.
Beyond design, I leverage my 10+ years of content writing experience via Quark Quill to help web3 and science startups communicate effectively with wider audiences. I’m also passionate about pushing the boundaries of web3 myself, leading the development of several upcoming projects:
1. A communication service fostering a connection between parents and newborns (preparing to seek grant funding).
2. Remote-controlled robots with tactile feedback (personal venture in the prototyping stage).
3. A web3-based environmental protection social platform (conceptual stage) where users can earn crypto for conscious waste disposal, environmental care, and “adopting” endangered animals.
By combining design, content creation, and entrepreneurial spirit, I strive to make web3 technology accessible and impactful for everyone while contributing to a more sustainable future through innovative projects.
There were times when self-doubt felt like a constant companion. Battling a major depressive episode alone, later diagnosed as anxiety and depression, even simple video calls became daunting. It wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t insurmountable either. It existed somewhere in the middle.
My saving grace was this: What if I could fast forward and see myself past the doubt and fear? So, I started taking small, imperfect steps. One paragraph written, however messy, was better than none. I couldn’t find a paid job, so I reached out to inspiring figures who offered to help for free and gain experience in the process.
It wasn’t always graceful, but I fought like the lioness who contributed significantly to their pride. Remember, every step, however small, moves you forward. Don’t let fear stop you from starting your roar.
Anita Erker
In 2018, I left my job at the World Bank because I was tired of centralized power and decision-making. Discovering the values of the blockchain community was like a breath of fresh air for me. Back then, the community was small, making it easy to connect with almost everyone. The main shared values among peers were knowledge sharing and togetherness.
As I’ve always been passionate about collaborating on business cases and showcasing real-life uses of new technology, I’ve kept contributing to the community by sharing marketing results, learnings, and cases to help newcomers. Thus, you can often find me mentoring or speaking at events for young web3 communities like HUMANS, Epic Club, and Safari Club. At the same time, I’ve also been active in traditional professional circles like the CMO Alliance.
Here, I’ve been working on modernizing the marketing profession and bridging the gap between traditional chief marketing officers and the world of web3.
Over the years, I’ve worked with over 60 startups and web3 companies in various roles like consultant, mentor, or manager. My focus has always been on applying effective marketing and community growth strategies in the fast-paced web3 market while keeping the core mission alive and adding value to the space, no matter how challenging the market conditions may be.
There was a pivotal moment in my career when I found myself at a crossroads, torn between the familiarity of established international organizations like the World Bank, UNDP, and UNICEF, and the allure of the unknown possibilities emerging in the world of blockchain. Luckily, I’ve met some people who have just started building their own blockchain and researching the shared economy concept. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and I knew deep down that I wanted to be a part of something that held such promise for positive change.
I joined this group of new tech enthusiasts, eager to contribute my skills and expertise to building something truly promising.
Transitioning from my role as Head of Digital in the Minister’s Cabinet to the unfamiliar world of web3 was a leap into the unknown, filled with uncertainty and challenges. One crucial lesson I learned was the importance of adopting a flexible mindset and embracing the unfamiliarity. Rather than expecting to seamlessly transfer my skills, I recognized the need to redefine my role and start from the ground up.
At first, I started contributing to the local community as a research fellow and blockchain enthusiast. Together, we’ve started many programs for the students, simply focused on education about the key blockchain values. At the same time, I was joining web3 communities I was interested in — on Telegram, Discord, and Bitcoin Talk forum. Once I could connect my new knowledge with my profession (communications), I was ready to be more active in web3 marketing discussions.
I found my first remote role by simply being a community member and supporting new community members to understand the project, find the information they are seeking, and understand the underlying concept. I didn’t even realize I was functioning as a community admin at the time. It was natural for me to support community members while promoting the company’s unique selling points and values since I came from a Comms background. Eventually, the management of the project noticed my contributions and contacted me to join the team.
It’s essential to forget about salary and material aspects and purely contribute to the promise of the space. In web3, the true currency is not measured in monetary terms but in the impact you can make and the potential to shape a better future for all.
So, to all those who are hesitant to dive into the world of web3, remember that it’s not about having all the answers from the start but about being courageous enough to embark on the journey of discovery and transformation, to break on through to the #betterfuture side.

Marketing communication in web3: I am running a Turkish and English Meta Cafe podcast, hosting web3 founders and individuals to increase web3 literacy in Turkiye. I voluntarily facilitated the translation of Kevin Owocki’s “Green Pilled” book into Turkish, and ensured a certain number of copies were distributed free to Turkish users. I have contributed to raising awareness about various web3 initiatives and models on CNNTurk. The podcast I hosted with Lens Protocol on Devreal won an award at the W3 Awards.
To young women and minorities aspiring to make their mark in blockchain or any field: believe in your ability to overcome challenges. Your unique perspective is invaluable, and with determination and resilience, you can turn any adversity into an opportunity for growth. Early in my career, I faced a pivotal moment that tested my resolve.
I had just ventured into the tech industry, notorious for its challenges and competition. Despite my passion and qualifications, I found myself constantly second-guessing my capabilities, especially as a woman in a male-dominated sector. The turning point came when I was tasked with leading a project that seemed way out of my league. Doubts and fears clouded my mind, and the prospect of failure felt all too real.
However, I embraced the challenge head-on instead of succumbing to the pressure. I spent countless nights learning new skills, seeking mentor advice, and refining my approach. The experience taught me the power of resilience, the importance of self-belief, and the value of persistence. Not only did the project turn out to be a success, but it also paved the way for my entry into the blockchain space, where I’ve been able to apply those lessons and continue breaking barriers. Blockchain was a completely different space but full of opportunities inside. Take the opportunities, especially new ones!

I have entered my 4th year in the industry. I work in marketing in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. I bring together the relevant communities in the companies I work with in this field, collect feedback on how we can improve the product, and work to popularize and adopt web3 for those who have never heard of it.
Unfortunately, men dominate this field. I have not encountered any irreversible difficulties yet, but I have made a lot of effort to make myself noticed and rise as a woman. I’ve dealt with a lot of talk about women not being able to trade. Unfortunately, there are few female employees in this field in Turkey. It is very difficult to rise and stand out as a woman in this field. Unfortunately, women are used as bait in the ecosystem because they appeal to visual perception. I believe they need to work hard to get more women to participate in the ecosystem.
Zeynep Ecenaz
I have been contributing to web3 as a marketer since 2020. Currently, I am working as a marketing & growth specialist at a wallet project.
As a 23-year-old woman still studying at university and working full-time in web3, I had to deal with impostor syndrome frequently since there were great people here, successful, intelligent, and inspiring, who had already graduated and built their businesses, which made me feel inadequate sometimes. I also underestimated my self-esteem and success since I do not have a technical background.
Besides the fact that there is an age, experience, and background difference between those people and me, I realized my potential and contribution to web3 in my circle, which is still valuable whether you code, educate people, or write. We all build a more decentralized, permissionless, and transparent future.
All of the things you do for this goal, such as tweeting for your web3 company, giving talks, and inviting your friends to web3, still help to onboard the next billion to this ecosystem, and there is no need to compare yourself with other people. Developing skills and learning more is up to you, and web3 provides endless opportunities for everyone to achieve their goals, which is challenging in the traditional world in which we live.
Chiara Munaretto
I’m on a mission to blend the worlds of web2 and web3, bringing together the best of both digital realms. It all started with my interest in web3 marketing and blockchain technology as a traceability solution.
I didn’t stop there. I wanted to inspire the young generation, so I launched the first student web3 association in Maastricht. I’m proud to be part of Deloitte’s Web3 Team, where I focus on enterprise blockchain and metaverse solutions.
But I’m not just about action — I’m about learning, too. I’ve written academic papers on regenerative finance and token-based loyalty programs. My goal? To make these topics accessible and help people understand the changing digital landscape.
In a world where things are always shifting, we need people who can bridge the gap between old and new tech. That’s where I come in — I’m here to be a guide, showing how web2 businesses and individuals can thrive in the web3 world. Together, we’ll navigate these exciting changes and create a future full of possibilities.
In 2021, while organizing numerous web3 events across the Netherlands, I couldn’t help but notice a stark gender gap. Among 30-40 attendees, only a maximum of two women were present in a full room of men. In a field still finding its footing and largely dominated by men, asserting oneself both in person and online requires an extra dose of courage and resilience.
I could have easily opted to switch gears or waited for the landscape to become more inclusive, but that wasn’t my style. Fueled by perseverance and a deep passion for the industry, I persisted, actively working to engage more women. Fast forward to 2024, and the tide has begun to turn. The number of women attending these events has doubled. While progress is still being made, the message is clear: INSPIRE!
For any woman who may feel hesitant about entering male-dominated spaces, please take that first step and open the doors to all the other women. Together, we can create a more inclusive and diverse community where everyone’s voice is heard and valued. Not to mention bringing web3 to everyone!

Making web3 CypherPunk again! Pushing tech for good (privacy protection tech) for the last three years to make it a safe place for everyone. I have been working full-time as a Growth Specialist since 2017. My mission is to make people understand that web3 is not just crypto/trading/nft monkeys. There is a really cool tech out there that solves real-world problems and makes the world a better place.
I guess there were challenges with every new company I’ve been working with. Every time I get into more difficult projects that require advanced technical skills, Every time, I have to learn a lot and study hard to succeed. But overcoming these difficulties has only one solution — work hard and do more than others. Always. And it will pay off.
Chantalle Alberstadt
I’m advising web3 companies on how to grow with marketing and community building. Additionally, we are creating brands with BoredBrands Studio (Design, Video, Photo), and I’m a co-founder of the biggest web3 beer brand MetaBrewSociety.
Honestly, the web3 community is the most welcome I’ve ever met. If you are interested in the space, enter it, and people will support you.
Modesta Masoit
I have been involved in the web3 space since 2019, almost five years. During that time, my biggest contributions were:
1. Shaping web3 finance (DappRadar, JPG Store)
2. Committing multiple researches on web3 growth, specifically to NFT, games, metaverse fields (was featured in Forbes, Fortune, Yahoo Finance and many more)
3. Contribute to the very first web3 CFO guidelines
4. Spread awareness via training advising (from time to time, I educate other women to get financial freedom)
Initially, I knew very little about it (the web3 space). My responsibilities were not only to make web3 accounting happen but also to run the web3 research unit. Creating finance and research units from scratch took plenty of hours and effort. Eventually, units were so successful that we were featured in many top outlets (FT, Forbes, etc.) and appeared in many podcasts and events. This unit still produces regular reports within DappRadar (I am not around there anymore).
Candyce Costa
I have created online events focused on web3 (NFT Lab), run a few courses in crypto and NFT, written blog posts for my magazine Female Tech Leaders, and joined a few panels in the space.
To gain respect and trust from people in any industry is hard work. Starting a career journey, especially in the male-dominated tech and blockchain industry, has its fair share of challenges. I had various pivotal moments in my career where I found myself caught between a rock and a hard place, especially when I changed direction in my career.
Every time, I focused on showcasing my skills and achievements, gradually earning the respect of those around me. I sought out mentors who had navigated similar challenges and learned from their experiences.
Today, as a tech enthusiast and advocate, I stand as a testament to the fact that perseverance and resilience can turn challenges into opportunities, and I want to inspire young women and individuals from minority groups to pursue their aspirations in the blockchain industry, knowing that their unique perspectives and contributions are not only valid but essential for the continued evolution of technology.
Ani Alexander
I have a podcast and newsletter (Non-Fungible Rebels), I advise and consult web3 projects, I am CMO at Trustyfy, and I run weekly Twitter Spaces.
My very first role in web3 was as a marketing lead. I was hired for a project that was going to have an ICO token sale back in 2017. Had a very tiny budget, a maximum of three months time, two people in the marketing team, and almost no one who believed we could do it.
None of us had done it before. The target for the raise was $20M. What made it possible was the fact that we were able to grow a genuine community. And by now, I am sure everyone already knows that the community is what makes or breaks projects.
Alena Shmalko
I help web3 startups grow and create valuable products on the TON blockchain. Previously, I co-founded a web3 pre-accelerator for ambitious founders.
I can’t think of a particular situation, but any time I am faced with a challenge on my career path, I always remind myself that at the end of the day, the outcome depends on my effort only. On my skills, knowledge, intelligence, savvy, and desire to dedicate my energy and attention to a certain project or goal. The word “gender” is not on the list since it can’t change anything. And who thinks otherwise is totally wrong.
Laura Stancescu
Working for the most active web3 accelerator in the space, I create valuable content for web3 founders to empower, bring value, support, and platform their projects, ideas, and achievements.
Being the one ‘behind the scenes’ of The Metaverse Podcast with our Founder and Chairman Jamie Burke, I connect on a daily basis with the most prominent web3 founders and pioneers, to create and produce conversations that are (actually) full of insights for founders on topics like pivoting, fundraising, bootstrapping, pitching, tokenomics, etc.
As with my web3 personal brand, Crypthena, I create valuable content on web3 marketing, AI tools, productivity, content best practices, and the power of a personal brand. I help founders become thought leaders in the industry, and I advocate for companies to encourage and then leverage the power of the founder and the employees’ personal brands.
The way I personally got into crypto at the end of 2020 was brutal. Listening to crypto influencers pumping and hyping coins left and right, investing (and losing) money on altcoins, meme coins, NFTs, etc. I got to ride the bull run, not knowing that a bear would hit.
But that was FULL of lessons. Just the fact that I knew about crypto and was trading it, I was familiar with the terminology, exchanges, etc, helped me land an entry-level job in the industry.
The secret to succeeding in the space is to keep persisting: for the past three years, I’ve been continuously learning, networking with “smarter” people, reading the news and the comments of the Reddit community on them, working with founders, and understanding the broader vision. And until today, I’m still learning (both new concepts and also going to the basics from time to time). But even when struggling with this, I was always excited. Maybe that’s the real secret, actually.
Margaux Borgey
I am a core contributor to Women In Web3, a collective whose mission is to educate, connect, and empower women in the web3 space. We’ve been implemented mostly in France and are now looking to launch other branches in other major cities in the web3 ecosystem.
We have secured partnerships with several major companies in the web3 ecosystem, including The Sandbox, Ledger, APWine, Morpho, and others. Our approach has always been to create themes that are relevant to everyone and not just to create content about women’s place in the tech sector.
On a personal level, my passion is to popularize this sector and its use cases, to highlight the work of the technical geniuses who create exceptional applications, and to make them accessible to all.
I’m also Head of Marketing at erable°, a platform that uses blockchain technology to enable investors to fund impact start-ups. In this way, investors can track both the impact of their investment and the returns generated in real-time. It’s a very web2 platform, but one that helps drive adoption through a sound use case.
In my opinion, the sector is still very much focused on a technical prism, whereas it should be focused on use cases. So, when I started out, I was rejected from certain events, particularly DeFi, because I wasn’t technically expert enough.
In such cases, in my opinion, it’s essential to reassure yourself because steps like these already show great courage. You fight against your own representativeness bias and inspire others. Today, I have the arguments to face up to this kind of situation, but it was difficult at first.
Phoebe Beigbeder
I started my journey at Ledger, but I felt we were missing an event to gather together, so I created Come and Alexander NFT Paris.
My real passion was to work in investment, and today, I’m on the Greenfield Capital investment team. I also founded in Paris Women in Web3.
One of the massive problems is not being considered as a connoisseur of the ecosystem. This is due to the lack of women developers.
Today, I’m trying to solve this problem in two ways:
1. Education and opening up the web3 world through Women in Web3 & NFT Paris through booths, panels, and in-depth discussions on technical subjects.
2. Collaboration, explaining that for this crypto world, you need to collaborate and that the technique is important but that it needs third parties like marketing finance communication to become a mass adoption product.
Anil Altas Brug
I have co-founded Turboslow Web3 Agency and Crypto Female Germany since 2020. I am also a creator in the space as an NFT Artist, supporting female artists and giving more space to women’s artworks in curations, global digital exhibitions, and prestigious events.
I am also a DLT Talent Mentor and NFT Talent at Frankfurt School Blockchain Center, a SistersLab Young Women in Tech Program mentor, and I was nominated as one of the Top Web3 Women in Central and Eastern Europe in 2023.
In March 2021, I was going to Brussels to see my brother, whom I had not seen for a long time because of the pandemic. I was shocked by the news of a newly mutated virus from France, so Belgium had decided to close its borders, and Germany had implemented new measures that made traveling even more complicated. We all have missed traveling to different cities and countries and taking deep and healthy breaths without wearing a mask.
If we can’t travel to see, experience, and feel our favorite cities around the globe, I thought, why not collect their NFTs? So, in this way, Breathe With Me NFTs appeared, specifically designed to relieve stress, cure homesickness, and help fight nostalgia.
This project has opened a new way as a business line to our web2 agency and made our bonds stronger as a brother and sister. In fact, many of the concepts we have been talking about for years were united by crypto art, collectibles, NFTs, blockchain, and Breathe With Me NFTs. When the project went live, I felt like I could breathe again. The creative process and blockchain technologies have helped me a lot to overcome my hidden stress and sadness.

I am the founder and CEO of MaasVentures and have a computer science and international business background. I am a blockchain expert, web3 mentor, and a female leader in web3 in Europe. I am featured as one of the top 10 web3 shapers and among the global top 100 women of the future in emerging tech. I am an ETHglobal New York and San Francisco hackathon prize winner and currently a mentor for the esteemed web3 talents (NFT, DeFi, DLT, Bitcoin, and ReFi) program at the Frankfurt School Blockchain Center, as well as a startup mentor for the top web3 accelerator Outlier Ventures.
With my rich knowledge and experiences in web3, I have supported and inspired more than 1500 global talents to grow. I am also a fellow member of the Digital Euro Association, an ambassador of the Global Blockchain Business Council, and an advisory board member of several esteemed organizations. I have connected the major hotspots of web3 in 14 countries and shared my thought leadership as a speaker on the world stages, including NFT.NYC in New York, the European Web3 Summit in Brussels, and the Dubai Future Blockchain Summit in Dubai. I am an official member of 100 Davos Women.
I started my company with my full heart in blockchain/web3 in 2023; in merely one year, I became a top voice and role model in blockchain. Switching my career from the Life Sciences and Health sector, where I worked for ten years, to who I am now took work. While all hard work pays off, you need to have an open mind, learn quickly, dare to take the lead and act the extra mile. I’m lucky to have found the point where passion, strength, and value meet, and I’m grateful to have received support from many people!

As a passionate advocate for women in web3 and tech, I’ve dedicated myself to fostering a more inclusive and equitable future in the ever-evolving landscape of technology. As the founder of Web3 Women Space, a vibrant community born a year and a half years ago, my mission is clear: to empower women to embrace the jobs of tomorrow, particularly in fields like web3, AI, and blockchain technology.
Within our dynamic community, we provide support mechanisms, ranging from mentorship programs and educational resources to online and in-person events. Through initiatives like interviews and podcasts featuring female leaders in web3, we strive to amplify the voices and experiences of women in the industry, inspiring others to join us on this transformative journey.
In addition to my role within Web3 Women Space, I am the Communication Lead for the Women in Tech Global Movement in Georgia. In this capacity, I lead efforts to champion Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity in STEM fields worldwide.
Through my speaking engagements at conferences, I passionately convey the importance of diversity and inclusion in gender teams. I emphasize women’s invaluable contributions to the table, not only in terms of gender representation but also in enriching the collective intelligence of teams. By challenging stereotypes and breaking down barriers, I strive to cultivate environments where everyone, regardless of gender or background, feels empowered to contribute their unique insights, ultimately driving innovation and success in the tech industry and beyond.
As a woman who entered the web3 and tech world from the creative industry as a User Experience Designer and Brand Strategist, I’ve encountered my fair share of challenges. There was a time when I felt overwhelmed, facing doubts and uncertainties about my path in this male-dominated industry. But during these moments, between a rock and a hard place, I discovered my inner strength and resilience. Every challenge became an opportunity for growth, fueling my passion to empower other women and minority groups to break into the blockchain and tech world.
Through perseverance and determination, I navigated the obstacles, seeking support from mentors and leveraging the power of community. Surrounding myself with like-minded individuals in Web3 Women Space, I found the courage to push forward, embracing the unknown and taking bold leaps in my career.
Additionally, I committed to constant learning, continuously adding to my knowledge of blockchain technology and intersecting fields alongside my existing expertise. Step by step, I became more and more confident in my abilities, integrating new concepts and skills into my work.
So, to all the young women and minority groups out there who may feel scared to take that leap, remember this: Your journey may be challenging, but your resilience and determination will guide you. Find like-minded people, join communities, embrace the unknown, and never underestimate the power of your voice and abilities. Together, we can break barriers and pave the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in web3 and beyond.

I am managing an engineering team working on projects in the web3 space (NFTs, smart contracts, DApps, GameFi). Bringing together our development experience from the web2 sphere and the insights we’ve got while working on web3 projects for our customers, we’ve launched a startup project to empower NFT creators and grow web3 mass adoption.
We have created an NFT tokenization and affiliate marketing ecosystem, REminto.com, a decentralized platform that enables smart contract-based affiliate marketing for NFT projects. Our big goal is to have every NFT project launched and marketed through our platform (and here, we are not only talking about art and images but any digital content and memberships, which could be easily tokenized as NFTs). For a global audience of early crypto enthusiasts, we are creating a new M2E (market-to-earn) model, where they can promote their favorite NFT projects and get a commission for every mint they refer. This would greatly impact global web3 mass adoption, and we are excited to be part of this process.
It’s interesting that when I started my IT career, it was when web2 became popular. Its concepts influenced all the technological developments we were to see for more than a decade.
Now it’s time for web3, and I know it’s better to be an early adopter. There are so many ideas to implement in this field, so many problems to solve, and so many opportunities to discover. I am excited to see all these and be a part of this innovative journey. And though the crypto market is quite young and volatile and may seem not easy to conquer at times, it’s so welcoming for the people who are willing to disrupt the stability and head towards the future right now. A little encouragement notice: the global situation is not easy these days, and it may be hard to cooperate internationally at times — the web3 field is the one that’s uniting people and companies globally, providing hope for a better future.
When my team was having a hard time, we created a web3 startup, and I found a lot of energy and enthusiasm in creating a global solution that’s supposed to empower NFT creators further and introduce smart contract-based affiliate marketing. It should also provide an additional source to earn crypto for anyone worldwide, recommending their favorite NFT products to their community and increasing web3 awareness and adoption globally. I am excited to be an active part of the web3 journey, that’s already on its way.
Anna Komashko
In the web3 sphere, my role as a communication manager at ECOS, a crypto investment platform, is to bridge the gap between valuable services and potential users. We specialize in simplifying the entry process for beginners, and my responsibility is to craft videos and podcasts that highlight the numerous benefits users can enjoy.
Upon entering the web3 space in 2019 after a big certification business, I encountered some challenges. The web3 landscape was relatively unregulated, leading to encounters with scammers who vanished after receiving BTC payments for promised services. Nevertheless, what I appreciate about this space is the freedom to express oneself with minimal bureaucracy.
Malaz Elnaiem
I am a Content Marketing Manager for a web3 gaming DAO.
When I first entered the space, it was under less-than-ideal circumstances. I worked with my former partner — yes, I know, I know, “don’t mix business with pleasure,” but I was in love. However, when the relationship eventually collapsed, so did my career, taking my professional confidence with it. Soon after the split, I moved out into a cozy little studio — a stark contrast to the home I once had. Thankfully, that was the year I received my FCT research grant. It wasn’t much, but it was my lifeline, enough to make sure the lights stayed on while I figured out my life. I was determined not to let this situation define me, and I also wanted to prove that my life was on an upward trajectory since shedding the “dead weight” that had been dragging me down. We gotta show ’em that we’re better without ’em, you know what I mean?
But gosh, the struggle was real and rough! It was lonely, filled with self-doubt and constant second-guessing. Learning curves were more like cliffs as I attempted to translate the familiar language of my past into the cryptic vernacular of web3. But I’m stubborn, so I “hodled” on and powered through, determined to make my point. I offered free branding and content services, pouring my heart and soul into every task, no matter how big or small. It was a gamble, trading my time and skills for the chance of something more, but it was one I was willing to take. Each task I undertook was an opportunity to prove my value and create a portfolio that reflected my ability to adapt, adjust, and overcome. Now, after three years in web3 and in my third role, I can safely say that the odds were in my favor, and taking those risks paid off in the end.
So, if I could offer advice, it would be to focus on self-improvement. Constantly work on yourself and your personal brand. Lack of experience shouldn’t hold you back; instead, see it as an invitation to start building that experience from scratch. The space is SO young! And there are so many boot-strapped projects out there that could use the help. Reach out to a project that resonates with you or one where you see a gap you can fill. Reach out to them, give it your all, and document your progress to strengthen your portfolio. You’re about to make this look easy!

I haven’t specifically experienced pushbacks and barriers. However, from a cultural point of view, it’s sometimes been a challenge to be heard and valued in a male-dominated workplace and industry. I am constantly seeing improvements across the board, which is encouraging, and for the younger generation of women in financial services, I’m confident that they won’t experience barriers.
Timea Nagy
As the co-founder of Women in Web3 Switzerland, I strive to build and nurture a supportive community for women in the web3 space by organizing events, workshops, and networking opportunities to connect women professionals, share knowledge, and foster collaboration. Within less than one year, I have managed to close multiple global partnerships (Japan, Taiwan, Dubai, etc.) and supported many women in securing a speaking slot at international events such as the European Blockchain Convention and many others.
As a legal expert, I support clients in achieving regulatory compliance. In addition, I spend time conducting research on legal and regulatory issues affecting the web3 ecosystem, such as data privacy, AI, and fintech matters.
As a public speaker, I have the opportunity to share my insights and expertise through speaking engagements, articles, and thought leadership initiatives. I contribute to industry publications, participate in panel discussions and conferences on a local as well as global level, and engage with media outlets to raise awareness of important issues and contribute to the ongoing dialogue around the future of web3.
Seven years ago, I decided to move from Romania to Switzerland without knowing German and without having a job in the legal field. So I sold my car, packed one suitcase and moved to Switzerland. Today, I managed to build a name for myself in the web3 legal space and found a women in web3 association where I had the chance to support others.
It was very scary as I had to leave my comfort zone behind and face the challenges. How did I do all this? I just simply went for it. In my mind, it was clear I had nothing to lose.
Kamila Michalkiewicz
I am a co-founder of Laminar Creations start-up. My mission is to make the benefits of web3 accessible to all. I believe in a future where digital interactions are more secure, transparent, and user-centric, thanks to the decentralized nature of blockchain technology.
My career began in architecture, where I spent six years immersing myself in diverse projects working across Germany, the UAE, and Switzerland, having already Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Despite a deep passion for architecture, I felt impressed with the innovative world of web3, which led me to make a big step. This shift meant leaving behind a familiar domain for the unknown territories of blockchain technology. Co-founding a startup to make web3 accessible to all wasn’t just a career change. It was a leap of faith towards a future I believe in.
The transition was filled with challenges and self-doubt, but my clear mission and belief in blockchain technology kept me anchored. It illuminated my path through the hard times, reminding me why I embraced this new journey. My transition from architecture to web3 underlines the importance of holding onto “your why.” With conviction, every challenge becomes surmountable.

My involvement in the web3 space encompasses multiple facets.
As the Head of Partnerships at Women in Web3 Switzerland, I secured ten partnerships with prestigious web3 conferences in Switzerland and abroad within less than a year. These partnerships encouraged female participation as attendees and speakers, giving us more visibility and enhancing diversity.
I also started the Entrepreneurs Working Group, a community that aims to empower female founders and entrepreneurship enthusiasts by knowledge sharing and enabling access to further the startup ecosystem. Last year, I organized an event in collaboration with the Crypto Valley Association, addressing opportunities and challenges in building ventures within the web3 landscape.
Recently, I co-organized the Women in Web3 Global Summit in Davos during the World Economic Forum, moderating a panel on female leadership and speaking on another panel about female financial inclusivity at the Web3 Hub Davos.
Additionally, I actively encourage my network to join events in the space, fostering continuous learning and broadening perspectives.
For women entering careers in web3, I’d advise them to be curious and just explore this transformative field, discovering if it aligns with their interests and aspirations.
Initially, I was a bit overwhelmed when joining conferences /events that were highly dominated by men. Therefore, I found a supportive female community on web3 where I was able to connect with women facing similar challenges and experiences. It was also a safe space to learn about the industry, which ultimately made me more confident to join “regular” events, not just as an attendee but also as a speaker.
Sarah Gottwald
I am the managing director of Blockchain Founders Group, a web3 startup accelerator helping many early-stage founders initially. I mentor at the Frankfurt School Blockchain Center’s Web3 Talents programs, host a podcast (Blocktales), and serve on the executive board of ITSA (International Token Standardization Association).
I was in a very nice position at BMW, but I felt a lack of opportunities, learning options, and growth. I was super curious about other topics and wanted to face a new challenge, have more freedom, and take on more responsibility. I decided to take the leap of faith and quit my old job. The most important thought for this decision was not to focus on the potential risks but on the amazing upside and opportunities that are waiting for me “outside.”
Sabrina Schaffer
I am helping founders in web3 to build a functioning business. I am passionate about sharing everything I have learned in my 15-year career with the builders of tomorrow to make sure they strive!
I was always scared of maths, but I knew I had to overcome this fear, so I went into management consulting (the hard part: close-to-insolvency restructurings) and made it to director in one of the most prestigious boutiques in the industry. It was hard at times but also very rewarding. I am fearless now. I have even started crypto futures trading for fun. You can be anything you want. Just do it.
Amber Ghaddar
I am a JP Morgan trader turned founder turned investor and have made significant contributions to the web3 space, starting with co-founding AllianceBlock in 2018, which grew to a $1.9Bn valuation in 2021, becoming one of the top 250 crypto protocols worldwide and one of the few female-led protocols with a token at the time.
Following this, I established The 200 Billion Club, an accelerator focused on investing in women-led startups. This initiative has secured partnerships with over 250 VC firms and facilitated more than $40M in investments for female founders and graduates.
In addition to my entrepreneurial efforts, I hold key positions on several boards within the web3 and digital asset sectors. These include the Global Digital Asset & Cryptocurrency Association (an influential SRO in the US), two crypto hedge funds, and a VC fund. These roles allow me to influence the development and regulatory landscape of the web3 ecosystem.
I am a recognized voice in the field, often quoted on CNBC, Bloomberg, Forbes, and Nasdaq and invited to BBC, SkyNews, Financial Times, and Davos to discuss the digital asset space.
I was awarded Fintech Times Rising Women in crypto power list 2020, Innovate UK Fintech Senior Leaders Standout 2021, Women in Fintech Powerlist 2022, Top Women in Crypto 2022, European Women in Finance 2022, Women in Fintech Powerlist 2022, Top Women in Fintech 2023 and COGX Leadership in Gender Equality Award 2023.
In my free time, I am a guest lecturer at EDHEC Business School in Nice (10th Business School in Europe) on fintech and cryptocurrencies and a TEDx speaker.
My work spans founding innovative startups, supporting women in tech, influencing policy and regulation in the digital asset space, and investing in the next generation of web3 professionals.
In investment banking, I was trapped in a cycle of overcommitment, driven by a desire to excel and a difficulty in saying no, reflecting a broader societal expectation for women to be accommodating. This unsustainable pace led to a pivotal moment: learning to say “no.” This wasn’t just about reducing workload but a profound step in asserting professional boundaries and personal value. This act of empowerment is crucial, especially in male-dominated fields like finance, crypto, and AI. To aspiring women and minorities, remember that your worth is non-negotiable, and setting boundaries is key to carving your path on your terms.
Laetitia Grimaud
I built a company with two other founders called D2X and just closed a SeriesA. They are the very first regulated crypto derivatives exchange in Europe (MIFID MTF) and we will list futures and options on ETH and BTC to start with. This will allow institutions to access the digital assets space in a secured manner and in a fully regulated environment.
Being an entrepreneur means to constantly being able to overcome challenges whether in the HR space, tech, regulation etc. You always have to deal with new
problems every day so I could give you thousands examples. The license process has been a very challenging one constantly producing new documents and answering questions. The most important thing is to always take one piece of a problem at a time and remain pragmatic, strong and taking perspective on things.
Salama Belghali
I am the founder of Women in Web3 Global.
I built a community of 600+ women in web3 in less than a year. I organized the first-ever Women in Web3 Global Summit in Davos during the WEF 2024. We sold out by 130%. I’m featured in several media outlets, including Forbes.
But it hasn’t always been a smooth ride.
In 2019, after 15 years of professional experience in finance and despite having a high-paying job, I was struggling to get inspired, find my calling, and figure out my next steps. I longed for a job where I could be passionate. I was eager to find an industry that moved and inspired me. I was stuck, confused, and lacked purpose in my life.
Today, I help women at pivotal points in their careers join web3 without getting overwhelmed by information overload. Having spent tens of thousands of hours immersing myself in web3. I’ve developed a tested method that saves time, energy, and money.
Dagmara Handzlik
In the web3 space, I’ve spearheaded strategic marketing and business plans, cultivated and managed communities, provided leadership and inspiration to marketing teams, and served as a keynote speaker at key web3 industry events.
When I reflect on my journey into the blockchain space, the primary challenge I faced was entering the space for the first time, where everything was not only new but also rapidly changing. Something that I learned about one day could become obsolete the next, and the volatility of cryptocurrency, along with market uncertainty, added another layer of challenge. I decided to delve into courses on blockchain and digital currencies to deepen my understanding of the industry. However, despite my eagerness to learn, I encountered moments of doubt, especially as a woman navigating a predominantly male-dominated field.
During this time, I actively engaged with the community on platforms like Discord, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Immersing myself in these spaces not only provided valuable insights but also connected me with like-minded individuals who shared their experiences and knowledge generously. Despite feeling overwhelmed at times, the support and encouragement from this community motivated me to persevere.
Moreover, I found inspiration in collaborating with people and projects that were pushing boundaries and exploring innovative solutions. Witnessing their passion and dedication fueled my own determination to contribute meaningfully to the blockchain ecosystem.
One particular challenge I faced was the fear of failure and the uncertainty of whether I could truly make an impact in this space. However, by embracing this uncertainty as an opportunity for growth and learning, I was able to overcome my doubts and push forward with resilience.
Ultimately, my journey into blockchain has been filled with moments of adversity and triumph. Through perseverance, continuous learning, and the support of a vibrant community, I’ve been able to navigate through challenges and carve out my path in this dynamic industry. My hope is that by sharing my experience, it can inspire other young women and minority groups to pursue their aspirations fearlessly, knowing that challenges are opportunities for growth and empowerment.
Dr. Demelza Hays
I manage one of the largest Bitcoin-only, actively managed financial products in the world called the Zeltner&Co. Bitcoin Volatility Premium Actively Managed Certificate. We have over $54 million in assets under management. I also manage the Zeltner&Co. Cryptocurrency Frontier Actively Managed Certificate, which has outperformed Bitcoin and doubled shareholder value.
I’m the Chief Economist at Cointelegraph, and I have written over 30 reports on blockchain and Bitcoin since 2014. I have also taught Bitcoin courses at several universities, including the University of Liechtenstein and the Judge School of Business at Cambridge University in the U.K.
In 2016, I applied to work for a famous cryptocurrency broker, and the owner of the company told me that he did not hire women. I was shocked, but I was not stopped. I went on to work for another company in the blockchain industry. Eventually, two years later, I was offered a job as head of research in the original company that told me they did not hire women.
Of course, I rejected their offer. I am still on good terms with the company, but I will always remember the way I felt when I was denied based solely on my gender and the sweet revenge arc years later.
Sima Baktas
I am a crypto lawyer and web3 legal expert, and also the co-founder of CryptoFemale.
Early in my career, before I delved into blockchain, I encountered significant uncertainty and challenges. Transitioning from traditional law to cutting-edge technology took work, particularly as a young woman in a male-dominated sector. Some were skeptical about blending law with fast-paced technology such as blockchain. The ambiguous future of this emerging field compounded the difficulties.
The situation in the blockchain sector was no different; it was even more challenging. I had entered a field where 95% of the participants were men.
In response to these challenges, we set up the CryptoFemale initiative to promote gender equality, and it is now reaching a global audience.
Nevertheless, these difficult times offered me an opportunity to grow. I leveraged my knowledge to advocate for clearer regulations and help companies understand the legal aspects of blockchain. The doubts and struggles I initially faced transformed into confidence and skills. These experiences led me to establish GlobalB Law and assume significant roles in various blockchain projects.
To young women and minorities who may be apprehensive about venturing into blockchain or other challenging fields, remember that it’s normal to feel uncertain. It would help if you viewed challenging times as growth opportunities, not obstacles. Your unique perspectives and strengths can fuel innovation. Remember, every expert was once a beginner, and your bravery to begin and persevere through tough times can lead to success. Continue breaking boundaries, keep learning, and build a supportive network. Your journey could inspire the next generation of leaders in blockchain or any other field you aspire to.
Anita Kalergis
I’m an influencer, KOL, speaker, and moderator. Additionally, I am advising web3 companies.
From day one (2017), I have been the “old woman” coming from sales and marketing with no technology background. During the first years, I understood nothing that the tech genius or project owners were explaining, not about crypto or NFTs or blockchain.
But I was, and am enormously fascinated by, the opportunities and possibilities the various technologies can provide, so I never let that stop me. I kept asking “why?” and getting my answers, and I ended up being one of the KOLs of emerging technologies. As kryptogranny, a true grandmother at 61 years old, I love every second of it. And I want to empower everyone, but especially women, to join the technological and financial future already today.
Varvara Markina
The web3 space, born not so long ago, is still in the process of forming its visual language. There are only a small number of brands in the market that pay proper attention to the design aspect of the product.
As Head of Design at BeInCrypto, I shaped the identity and design system for our umbrella brand, which served as the face and became the product’s calling card, setting it apart from the competitors. Our team creates thoughtful packaging for various products within BeInCrypto, from the website and landing pages to social media graphics and presentations for public events.
I make sure that any visuals appear not just for the sake of beauty but based on current challenges, research, and marketing strategy. By endowing images with meaning, we develop designs that, along with texts, can build communication with the user and make the brand deep, recognizable, and catchy.
In my opinion, one of the main challenges of working in the Web3 space is the continuous change and innovation in the field. To stay afloat, you need to adapt to circumstances, remain flexible and hungry for new information, tools and rules.
What was relevant yesterday may become obsolete today. At the beginning of my journey, this reality made me fearful and disorientated in the professional field, I lacked stability and consistency. However, with experience I realised that change is the engine not only of your professional but also of your personal growth. By not resisting, but by accepting these rules of the game, you will be expanding your skillset day by day, rapidly increasing your capabilities and planning horizon.
Sara Simeone
I’m the CEO and co-founder of Niftyz, a Tokenization-as-a-Service platform. Lecturer in Blockchain for Business and Law and Board Member of the MedieInstitutet in Sweden. Co-chair of the Start-up Working group at the Crypto Valley Association in Switzerland.
During my early days as a female entrepreneur in the web3 space, I pitched our project to potential investors who felt my passion was overshadowing the project’s details and practicality. This initial confusion evolved into the realization that I needed to refine my communication style to balance passion with clear, concise delivery. However, simply suppressing my enthusiasm wasn’t the answer either.
Through this challenge, I learned the importance of finding my voice and presenting with confidence while adapting my communication style to resonate with the audience. I actively sought mentorship, honed my presentation skills, and gained a deeper understanding of the market. This experience taught me that growth comes from facing setbacks and learning to navigate challenges in an authentic and adaptable way.
The blockchain industry, like any new frontier, requires resilience and a willingness to learn. Remember, you’re not alone in this journey. Surround yourself with a supportive network, embrace continuous learning, and, most importantly, never be afraid to bring your unique voice and passion to the table!
Influential women in crypto in 2024: Asia-Oceania
Sujha Sundararajan
I have had seven+ years of extensive experience in blockchain and cryptocurrency journalism, working with major newsrooms, including CoinDesk, CCN.com, Bitcoin Magazine, BeInCrypto, Asia Blockchain Review, Protos, FX Empire, and International Business Times.
I am currently a senior cryptocurrency journalist at Cryptonews.com.
My key contributions to crypto journalism:
I amassed an extensive reader base throughout my experience by delivering clear, concise content.
My expertise includes crypto regulations, mining, CBDCs, and digital assets hacks/fraud reporting.
My work has also explored investigations on how enterprises and the broader business community are adopting blockchain.
My work has been regularly cited in industry research reports such as the World Bank’s “Emerging Markets Compass” report, 2019.
I deeply understand DeFi and crypto regulations in Asia-Pacific and have interviewed dozens of the region’s central bankers, industry experts, and other policymakers.
I have also stood apart in my ability to connect with sources. Throughout my journalistic journey, I have earned the trust of my sources to deliver my stories.
Prior to entering the crypto reporting arena, my beats on science and politics included reporting and local traveling at night, which had put my safety in jeopardy at certain times. However, such times gave me more power to handle any situation with patience and assertiveness.
Also, when in the newsroom, I don’t hesitate to voluntarily ‘take the lead’ whenever required. This has helped me to project my position in the team, stand out in reporting special pieces, and also take on challenging projects to prove my ability.
I believe in the energy and ideas of the many brilliant women around us and want to help every woman thrive as a journalist in whatever way she desires.
Shalini Wood
I am Shalini Wood, an accomplished marketing communications professional with over 15 years of experience in global corporate communications, branding, digital marketing, and leadership within Fortune 100 companies and the blockchain industry. Currently, I serve as the CMO of Babylon Chain, a Cosmos-based project that scales Bitcoin to secure the decentralized economy. Since 2017, I have held leadership positions at several blockchain companies, including the role of CMO for the Danish blockchain project e-Money.
I have lectured, designed courses, and led/supervised research at Utrecht University, where I co-designed courses for the Bachelor’s program, including “Blockchain for Creative Industries” and “Building Brand Experience for the 2030 Consumer,” “Creative Business for Emerging High Growth Regions,” and many more.
I also led the marketing team at Rario, the world’s first officially licensed cricket NFT platform, securing 120 million in funding and exclusive contracts with international cricket boards.
Before my blockchain career, I was the Marketing Communications Lead for Honeywell, where I drove marketing communications for the EMEA region and was the Communications Lead for all Mergers & Acquisitions in the EMEA region.
Working in a predominantly male sector for over a decade has its challenges. There have been moments where I’ve encountered individuals in the tech field who didn’t value the contributions of non-tech team members like myself. Sometimes, my Indian background and lack of a fancy American or British accent might have affected how I was perceived.
However, I’ve always believed in the power of letting my work do the talking. Whenever faced with such behavior, I consider it a challenge—an opportunity to push myself further. It fuels my determination to excel and prove my worth through actions and results.
Despite encountering a few bad apples over the years, it’s important to highlight that most of my experiences in this male-dominated sector have been positive.
Sky Han
My mission is to make payments crypto-native, transforming the way humans collaborate and transact through open and frictionless crypto payments. I founded MugglePay in 2019 to help over 10,000 merchants accept crypto, and I have since helped over 1 million users get into crypto payments.
My team has many male colleagues with excellent backgrounds. When I first entered the workplace, some of my product designs and articles were often mistakenly thought to be led by them. I’ve tried many methods, and two of them have worked.
The first is to improve my abilities and be in a leading position, and the second is to communicate directly with colleagues and sign my name on the project. I believe that many women are just as talented and capable as men and have many unique gifts. At present, the proportion of women in MugglePay has always been higher than 50%.
Aliya Das Gupta
I lead business development and strategic projects for Sygnum Bank, the world’s first digital asset bank.
Getting into blockchain wasn’t something I had planned. I landed in Switzerland unemployed and, by chance, came across the web3 space. I knew nothing about it, but I could tell it would be big. Without a technical / business background, I thought it would be impossible to end the field, but I learned that with any sunrise industry, every skill set has its special place. The best part of diving in early is that it enabled me to grow with the industry.
Sarah Kwon
I’m running a podcast called “Daily Crypto News,” both in English and Korean. This podcast aims to bring international crypto news to Korea and deliver Asian crypto news to the world. I also run a DAO called ThreadoorDAO, which is a pool of web3 content creators.
Coming from a country that has a huge volume of crypto trading but not a lot of international web3 education present, I felt I had an obligation to fill that gap. However, it was not easy to find my place. I had great skills, such as multilingual communication skills, and great working experience in web3 for more than five years. However, the biggest challenge for me was myself — I thought I was somehow inferior to other people for whatever reason.
Eventually, I made peace with my background, my shortcomings (and even my strengths), and started to think about what I could do, not what I should do. That’s how I got to co-host Daily Crypto News, and every day, doing what I can to contribute to web3 with what I have.
Anuja Khatri
I’ve been helping with business strategies to grow web3 companies to the next level.
Shifting a career direction is risky, but you must take that risky leap and catch the wave. If you’re truly passionate about the work or the company’s vision, try to align your strengths with it, and you’ll see wonders! The work will feel like fun because you won’t look at work as work but rather as a mission aligned with your interests and strengths!
Amna Usman Chaudhry
I have been involved in the blockchain space for quite some time now, founding an initiative to fight plastic pollution via tokenization on blockchain in 2018, being a co-founder of Oxford Blockchain Foundation, and taking part in initiatives that promote gender diversity in blockchain and web3. These include DAOs and supporting UN SDGs and the use of emerging tech including blockchain to help achieve them.
I have also worked with international organizations on using blockchain for good, such as reducing the digital divide using NFTs while at UNICEF. I advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability in the web3 and emerging tech space. I regularly share insights on blockchain and other emerging tech, especially on LinkedIn, as I strongly believe education can help overcome the tech barrier and encourage more people to join the web3 space, leading to a more inclusive, decentralized, and diverse web3 ecosystem.
My first time at a major blockchain event in 2018 was shocking, especially seeing the lack of women in the space. There were very few women, but slowly, the space has evolved, and now there are many more brilliant women in the blockchain and web3 industry. It was discouraging to see such a lack of gender diversity, but I realized that we all need to step up, work together to encourage more gender diversity in this space, and also support each other. Since then, I have been fortunate to be involved in initiatives promoting gender diversity and women empowerment, which align with my values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Jocelyn Chang
In 2018, I began as the APAC community lead at MakerDAO Foundation, shaping communities and overseeing regional marketing. After the foundation dissolved, I pivoted to a full-time DAO contributor, concentrating on protocol growth. As an early crypto contributor, I actively nurture community engagement, using my voice to impact the development of the decentralized web.
At a career crossroads in 2017, I stumbled upon blockchain and crypto at a meetup in Singapore. It grabbed my interest, pushing me to explore more. Anyone thinking about diving into crypto should find what excites them. Go deep into what really grabs you, and go all in — explore, contribute, and enjoy the journey.
Shann Ng
In the dynamic web3 space, I play a pivotal role at TRONDAO, focusing on marketing and public relations efforts for Justin Sun, the founder of TRON.
My contributions involve strategizing and executing innovative marketing campaigns, enhancing brand visibility, and fostering community engagement. By leveraging the latest technologies and trends in the web3 ecosystem, I aim to amplify our presence and drive the adoption of decentralized solutions, thereby shaping the future of digital interactions and finance.
The leap into blockchain was fraught with uncertainty, and the fear of failure loomed large. However, I was driven by a deep-seated passion for the potential of decentralized technology to reshape our world. It was this passion that propelled me forward, serving as a beacon through moments of doubt and hesitation.
The journey was not without its setbacks. There were moments of failure where the path I had chosen seemed insurmountable. Yet, it was through these very challenges that I gained invaluable insights and the resilience necessary to persevere. Each setback became a lesson, a stepping stone toward greater understanding and competence in my field.
I share this experience to underscore a simple yet profound truth: the fear of taking the first step can be overwhelming, but it is through taking that leap, driven by passion, that we discover our true potential. Even in failure, there is value, for each attempt provides us with the knowledge and strength to succeed in future endeavors.
Arisha-ul-Tahreem
I’ve made multiple contributions to blockchain, second-layer projects, crypto, tokenization, and RWA-based projects. I’m the Brand Ambassador at Lumishare. I’ve made contributions to the side of web3 marketing and community building.
The hardest point was for me to learn about web3 properly because there’s no proper course for it, especially in our native language. However, I kept doing my R&D and learned and delved deeply into decentralized ecosystems.
Raine Laluna
I empower people from the Philippines in web3 via community building, education, and networking.
In January 2022, I knew nothing about crypto or web3. Back then, connecting with others was a challenge. No one knew me. But I focused on my strength: building connections.
Leveraging this skill, I dived into the world of web3, connecting with diverse networks and communities. I even co-founded communities: FilipinasNFT, empowering women in web3 to thrive in this space, and web3 Cebu, empowering my local community about web3.
It wasn’t easy to be seen in the space, but through my efforts, people started to recognize me and slowly get opportunities. My advice is to stay true to your mission, values, and goals. Believe in yourself, and the rest will follow. You’ll find yourself later, and opportunities are now knocking on your doors.
Alex Albano
I have worked in the blockchain and data innovation space for over seven years as a founder, advisor, and executive of various projects and startups. I now work at Google as APAC Lead for Web3 Ecosystem Growth, collaborating with multiple teams and stakeholders to explore and accelerate the adoption of decentralized technologies and web3 applications at scale.
Rather than a single moment, it is the many times that I was the only woman in the room and how, over time, I became comfortable with that. Find your voice and visibility, ask for feedback, and iterate on the suggestions for improvement that you receive. By learning and improving, you will be at the top of your game and move further and faster than most.
Krystelle Galano
I have contributed as one of the top marketing advisors of startup companies for the last decade.
For almost a decade of successful experience in the aforementioned outfits, I had overseen marketing strategies for countless heavyweight brands. I created a compelling image brand for them with nonpareil social media management. I specialize in Digital PR, Content & community management, influencer marketing, digital ads, corporate communications, and every blockchain and media event planning.
With my robust networks and connections across an endless range of niches, I also boast significant professional experiences driving investors to budding and established brands. I was also awarded as TOP CMO and one of the Women who got recognition and awards in World Women Leaders last 2023 and nominated in Rising Women in Crypto Power List 2023 of Wirex.
Most of my friends and relatives ask what job I am currently working on. I tell them about my experience as a digital marketer and crypto-blockchain enthusiast. Then, I’ll explain and share information about crypto and web3.
After that, I explain how I work, my specialties in the marketing field, and how I apply these skills. Most importantly, you encourage them to DYOR (Do Your Own Research), as this is the easiest way to get to know about all things in space or the digital world.
It takes time and patience, but people with interests always enjoy learning new things because they will never know if they can also contribute and take their skills to the next level.
In the end, my persistence paid off. I secured a position in a groundbreaking blockchain project that aligned perfectly with my passion and skills.
Remember, overcoming challenges in the blockchain industry — much like any industry — requires technical proficiency, strategic networking, mentorship, and unyielding determination.
I encourage you to embrace your journey, learn from every experience, and recognize that your unique perspective and skills can reshape the blockchain landscape.
Alicia Kao
I work as the Managing Director at KuCoin Exchange. With more than ten years of digital marketing experience, I am a blockchain believer and an avid NFT collector. During the past four years at KuCoin, I have been responsible for KuCoin’s marketing and managing institutional and VIP client relationships. I am currently focused on long-term strategy development and fostering lasting partnerships to help build the crypto industry.
In my journey within the blockchain industry, I’ve faced several moments that tested my resolve and courage. One particular instance was when I was transitioning from a traditional tech role to a blockchain-centric position. The sheer novelty of blockchain technology, coupled with the industry’s male dominance, presented a formidable challenge. I often found myself doubting my abilities and facing skepticism.
However, I overcame these hurdles through relentless learning, seeking mentorship, and leaning on a community of like-minded professionals. This experience taught me the power of resilience and the importance of continuous education, which I believe is crucial for anyone looking to break into this field, especially women and minority groups. Overcoming this challenge not only bolstered my technical skills but also instilled a sense of empowerment and confidence that I could navigate and succeed in new, uncharted territories.
Monica Nguyen
In the web3 space, I’ve played a multifaceted role, leveraging my expertise and networks to drive meaningful impact and foster inclusivity. As a board member and advisor to the Women in Tech Alliance at EUTECH, I’ve curated impactful webinar topics covering web3, crypto, and blockchain, facilitating knowledge dissemination and community engagement. Additionally, as an inaugural member of The Bigger Pie, an online community supporting women in blockchain, I’ve contributed to creating a supportive ecosystem for women to thrive and excel in the industry.
Beyond community-building, I’ve actively utilized my network to empower women in my community by facilitating employment opportunities and providing platforms for them to showcase their talents and voices within the web3 landscape. Through these initiatives, I am dedicated to driving diversity, equity, and inclusion in the web3 space, empowering women to participate fully and contribute meaningfully to its growth and innovation.
In my journey into the crypto industry, I faced a significant challenge as a mother of four with no prior financial or blockchain background. Entering a complex and rapidly evolving field felt daunting, and doubts about my knowledge crept in. However, instead of succumbing to fear, I embraced it as an opportunity for growth.
I immersed myself in learning, devouring podcasts, attending conferences, and enrolling in online courses to build a foundational understanding of blockchain technology and the crypto market. I prioritized networking, seeking out communities and events where I could connect with industry professionals and like-minded individuals. Through these connections, I found mentors who offered invaluable guidance and support, helping me navigate the nuances of the industry and build confidence in my abilities. Despite the initial challenges and moments of self-doubt, I persisted with determination and resilience. I reminded myself of my passion for learning and my desire to make a meaningful impact in the crypto space. Through perseverance and a willingness to embrace the unknown, I gradually carved out a niche for myself from an OTC Broker to a Customer Success Manager in a Payment Institution.
Reflecting on my journey, I recognize that my 20-year background in customer-facing roles with no prior experience in finance or blockchain ultimately became my greatest strength. My unique perspective and life experiences enriched my understanding of the industry and fueled my drive to succeed.

I’m the Co-Founder and Managing Director of CoinMENA, the largest local exchange serving the MENA region. CoinMENA is a cryptocurrency exchange licensed by Dubai’s Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority and the Central Bank of Bahrain, where users can buy, sell, send, receive, and store digital assets safely. We have been in operation since Q1 of 2021 and have onboarded close to 1 million users onto web3.
The biggest challenge of my career came when we were gearing up to launch CoinMENA, and the whole world shut down due to Covid-19.
Launching a startup was challenging enough, but with Covid-19, it was exponentially harder. The biggest issue was that no one knew what was going to happen or how long this would last. On the one hand, we identified a market opportunity and developed a solution for it, but on the other, we were all locked in our homes. This happened as we were finalizing the paperwork for our first license from the Central Bank of Bahrain. Obtaining a license is hard enough, requiring the coordination of many stakeholders, and every entity was adapting to this new reality and shifting to remote work. Thankfully, COVID-19 came at a time when we have the technological tools to be able to work fully remotely.
However, we kept pushing forward and eventually broke through. In these tough times, I try to keep a narrow focus and focus on small wins. Day by day, we chipped away at the many obstacles we faced, and eventually, we were able to obtain our license and launch CoinMENA in Q1 2021, which was a key year for crypto. Asset prices rallied to all-time highs, and we were perfectly positioned to capture a significant portion of the market share. Over the next two years, we became the fastest-growing cryptocurrency exchange in the region in terms of both user growth and trading volume. Then, in 2023, we became a profitable company and are now the largest regional exchange in the MENA region.
We are extremely proud of how far we’ve come and how we were able to weather the challenges of the crypto bear market, emerging stronger and healthier than ever on the other side. Now we seem to be fully back in a bull market cycle, and we’re excited for the next phase of CoinMENA’s growth.

I work at the dYdX Foundation to help democratize access to finance; I assist dYdX community members in creating the perpetual exchange they want. I also created a little community of women in Bali (where I’m currently based) to have monthly crypto meetups and learn about crypto together.
I was a corporate lawyer before transitioning into a career in blockchain. It was unbearable long hours, and I didn’t enjoy much work-life balance.
When I learned about blockchain and cryptocurrency, the thing that stuck with me was the self-sovereignty of your assets, and it kind of pushed me to create the life I want because no one was going to simply give it to me. I learned data analytics that allows for remote work and eventually jumped into on-chain analytics.
